Trying to exploit the template grid into a comic page style to pay tribute to some of the very talented and funny folk at MAD from those early and middle years.
I can't believe nobody had mentioned John Severin yet in their Influence Maps, even in people they didn't include!

I used to be an avid reader of Mad years ago as a kid. My favorite parts of the magazine were the comics and marginal doodles by Sergio Argones and the Spy vs. Spy comics. I even used to draw my own Spy vs. Spy strips!

Thanks B! I had thought I'd had fun doing the last 2 but this one was REALLY fun!
Indeed, Sergio Aragones is one of my favorites too as you may have guessed by his 5 images as opposed to the 1 by everyone else. BTW, that Sergio panel is from the cover of a "MAD?s Greatest Artists: Sergio Aragon?s: Five Decades of His Work" put out a couple years ago.Harvey's an important enough character to be the punchline of his own cover to MAD #1 Of course, Gaines was only the publisher... but a most important one among comics! The rest have all had stellar careers with a massive body of work. Also of note: John Severin passed away in Feb. He was still working right up till the end. Check out his inks on Dark Horse's Witch Finder. Not just good, impressively good and not just good for a 90 yr old... impressive by any standard!

Ah, good ol' MAD. That brings back memories too. They were all pretty awesome, yeah. Who doesn't love Sergio Aragones? That's my favourite panel here, incidentally, though your choice of panels is generally great. Spy vs Spy too! I missed that at first. And who knew that Harvey Kurtzman was a slithering blob? You learn something new everyday!
