Born in the Manchester section of Pittsburgh, Sapphire Nelson, beat the odds and made her way out of the slums. Attending Penn State and then entering the Peace Corp. Her volunteer duties brought her to Tanzania and the event that changed her life.

When rebels invaded the small village she was working in she led the survivors up one of the slopes of Kilimanjaro. While hiding in a cave Sapphire came upon an ancient altar holding a fist sized sapphire gem. When she picked it up the jewel glowed and then fused itself to her forehead. Imbued with the tremendous power the jewel held, Sapphire fought off the rebels and returned the villagers home.

Sapphire resides in her native Pittsburgh where she now lives as her cities protector.

Notes: Another childhood creation of mine.  Although, she started off male and a knock off of Green Lantern.  Over the years the concept changed and she probably received much of her look from Starfire.  Too many years ago to remember...
