Art by me. Color by my usual colorist Katrina Mae Hao.
The story behind it: My daughter Jasmine -- whom a lot of people that know us refer to as "Banzai Girl 2.0" -- is really into SAILOR MOON these days. So much so, that I bought for her a really nice custom Sailor Moon costume, along with real boots and handmade jewelry to match. Yup, she's been running around the house pretending to be the character. A lot.
So I decided, "Why not do a piece with Sailor Moon, and Jasmine, and me?"
The room I'm depicting really IS Jazzy's bedroom. I added Jasmine in costume having a grand time; Sailor Moon hanging out with her; and me -- looking a touch bedraggled as only a Mom can look -- kinda of miffed that Jasmine prefers dressing up more as Sailor Moon than as Banzai Girl! To add more authenticity, I added other stuffed animals (including Hello Kitty) and our own Wilfred character equally miffed by the appearance of his cat counterpart from the Sailor Moon series.
I have mixed feelings ................... I appreciate the original sketch so much that sometimes I think it should never be coloured. I think you handle the incorporation of your daughter into the picture very tastefully.
Since I've already explained how much I loved the quality, character and fun of this excellent drawing, I'll just add that the color is great and works very well, adding a nice separation of elements to your beautifully detailed linework. Terrific job!
