Programs used: Photoshop 7, Poser, ZBrush
I started with a basic idea and sketched it out. From there I did a more detailed sketch of Absorbing Man. Using Poser and the Daz model Michael I recreated the pose I drew (which is sorta in homage to the famous Kirby image of Absorbing Man). I exported that as an obj and worked him over in Zbrush to look more like Mr. Creel. Then back into Poser to render just the figure without textures or mapping. I did another render adding the ball and chain and applying its texture and bump maps to my Ab-man model. That was combined with the original render in PS along with the addition of the skin texture, pants and other details. I also applied a rock texture I made to his completed leg. Thor started out as the high rez version of the Poser male Don. I made the helmet in Zbrush. I did some post work on the helmet (adding a feather texture to the wings and some metal texture) and painted in the facial hair in PS. I made the shirt more as a nod to the Viking images of Thor rather than using the anachronistic Marvel design. The frost giants started life as the Poser model Behemoth created by Sixus1. Just like with Ab-man I worked them over in Zbrush and rendered them in Poser (this time with a texture). They are heavily reworked in PS to achieve the ice look. The star field is based on the awesome Greg Martin tutorial, and the aurora borealis is something I came up with using gradients and blending properties in PS. The snow in the foreground is combination of textures. One being a photographic reference and the rest made in PS. The mountains in the background are similarly constructed. Loki is the Daz model the Freak. I just thought the bone structure was perfect for the under lighting effect. His helmet is another original Zbrush model (of a helmet
) I made for the piece. Once again I used the rendering engine in Poser and then added it in PS. I then added the snow/fog, and shadow elements in PS once again.
With all of the elements in place I sought out some critiques from my cohorts. With that input I added: the hammer (made in Zbrush and textured in PS), altered the aurora colors, added the motion blurring, and reworked the frost giants a little bit.
