Yeah, just think of it in the standard robot personality programming sense of "male" or "female" rather than physical traits, although I do have some robot characters that are more humanoid in appearance which do appear male or female rather than just having the corresponding personalities. For these guys though I was just thinking along the lines of the droids from Star Wars where they could have a male or female personality and be referred to as he or she, but look like anything. Plus, a lot of them are just pallet swaps as is the case here. Although, I'm not sure any droids have family relationships, but it has been done with Transformers, and lot of their family relationships are shown by body styles and/or pallet swaps so figured that I'd apply something similar to my own robot characters.
