| BANZAI GIRL: MONTAGE! JinkyCoronado 2009/9/16 22:33 4043 3
I thought I'd sort of do a montage of characters from my whole BANZAI GIRLS storyline. This became the cover for my first graphic novel collection.
I had help on this one. The basic layout, and the snake monster, were by Wilson Tortosa, current artist on WOLVERINE: MANGA. He and I did the art on much of the first BANZAI GIRL series together.
Several years later, I returned with a new BANZAI GIRLS sequel storyline, and my own style had matured a bit. This hearkens back to the original style.

| BANZAI GIRL: THE MOVIE! by Adriano Melo JinkyCoronado 2009/9/19 20:44 5867 3
Awhile back here on Heromorph, I was discussing with other artists the idea of a BANZAI GIRL movie. "Who would play me?" I wondered, after shooting down the idea that I could play myself.
A number of names were kicked around. I think everybody decided that if a BANZAI GIRL movie were to be made in 2010, then Vanessa Hudgens would be the logical choice.
But when I originally conceived BANZAI GIRL a few years ago, I had someone else in mind: Kristen Kreuk, who played Lana Lang for years on Smallville and Chun-Li in the recent Street Fighter movie.
Witchblade artist Adriana Melo graciously did a drawing of Kristen as my character, and I thought to share it with you now.

| BANZAI GIRL by Cliff Richards JinkyCoronado 2009/9/22 22:07 6966 4
Happily, I am surrounded by good friends who are also among the top artists in the whole comicbook business!
Artist CLIFF RICHARDS, who drew BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER for Dark Horse for five years, has also drawn ANGEL, STAR WARS, THE SCORPION KING, BIRDS OF PREY, WONDER WOMAN, ROGUE, X-FACTOR, ESCAPE, and lots more. He's currently drawing the graphic novel adaptation of PRIDE & PREJUDICE & ZOMBIES.
And, wonderfully, he took the time to do this pinup of my character, for me to share with you!
Hugs,

This is a cover I Photoshopped years ago based on screenshots from the MMRPG City of Heroes. Several covers were made, along with a couple flash animations and a poorly written, but fun monthly comic book for a year or so. For those that are interested, most of what was produced is available at http://home.comcast.net/~vphil
(Warning: Links not tested there in a long time, some of the older PDF comics may have expired from the free hosts I put them on and the originals are... well somewhere around here... *kicks a defunct dell*) |

| BANZAI GIRL (and friends!) by Al Rio JinkyCoronado 2009/9/24 13:43 4102 2
Not only is my friend AL RIO is one of the biggest and best artists in comicdom, he's also one of today's premier "good girl artists," as his many commissions on alrioart.com can attest.
These days, Al Rio is the full-time artist on VAMPIRELLA -- plus, he's working on a huge project called NINETY, which you'll hear much more about next year.
Al drew a wonderful illustration showing all three incarnations of Jinky (Princess, Future Freedom Fighter, and Schoolgirl), plus her friends (Michelle, Rommel, and Kat). I couldn't be happier with how it all turned out.
Hugs,

*I did this way back in Feb. Just wanted to post something.
I was board and couldn't sleep last night. I was just sitting there thinking and this came into my head. I got up and drew the sketch at about 5 am in the morning. I spent today coloring it. Really this was a fun experiment piece. I did a basic flat colors with no lines over top of the translucent line work. Then shaded those colors with only the burn tool and the dodge tool. Pretty awesome. Han a lot of fun just kidding around. |

| BANZAI GIRL: PEEKING GARDENS! JinkyCoronado 2009/9/26 20:19 3177 3
In a previous posting, I showcased the Tikbalang, a half-human, half-horse creature that loves to trick humans and lead them astray.
Usually they are to be found in densely wooded areas, but once in a while they come out into the towns. I based it on an idea from a Golden Age cover I saw recently...I think it was a Phantom Lady, with a blonde in her bed menaced by a crook pointing a gun in through her window....

Here's the color version of my illustration, hues courtesy of Katrina Mae Hao.
And yes, the "big head" effect on the figure was deliberate. The person who commissioned it wanted me to give it more of a Dean Yeagle "Mandy" flavor...

Born in the Manchester section of Pittsburgh, Sapphire Nelson, beat the odds and made her way out of the slums. Attending Penn State and then entering the Peace Corp. Her volunteer duties brought her to Tanzania and the event that changed her life.
When rebels invaded the small village she was working in she led the survivors up one of the slopes of Kilimanjaro. While hiding in a cave Sapphire came upon an ancient altar holding a fist sized sapphire gem. When she picked it up the jewel glowed and then fused itself to her forehead. Imbued with the tremendous power the jewel held, Sapphire fought off the rebels and returned the villagers home.
Sapphire resides in her native Pittsburgh where she now lives as her cities protector.
Notes: Another childhood creation of mine. Although, she started off male and a knock off of Green Lantern. Over the years the concept changed and she probably received much of her look from Starfire. Too many years ago to remember... Model: Claudia Pool |

So this is a re-do.... which I never EVER do! the original from 2005 is here http://reddera.deviantart.com/art/Self-Portrait-88240342 I was 15, now I'm 19. I always loved the concept so I thought to add to my portfolio I would redo it as me today. The face is a bit off, I will continue working on it. :) thought it would be cool to do since Halloween is coming up. |

Halloween is upon us this week, so I thought I'd do something a little extra-spooky.
A dangerous cliff, a full moon, bats, monsters, a ghostly presence, teens in terrible danger, shredded scholgirl uniform -- yup, I think it's ready!
Color is by Katrina Mae Hao.
What do you think?

| BANZAI GIRL: Fact & Figures (Line Art) JinkyCoronado 2009/10/27 0:34 2796 0
Practically every year, for the Glass House Graphics CREATING COMICS SEMINAR held in Manila, I do the art for the promotional poster. (And I teach a bit there or at least model for the artists.)
So every year, I contribute a Banzai Girl in a different pose, usually holding a pencil. The next Seminar is sometime in January 2010. I did the line art for the poster today, so here's an advance look.

Hmmm... I think this is the first image in 2 years and I am not totally happy with it. It has a few issues. But hey, gotta get it posted before the 31st.
This is a follow up piece to my adult themed Halloween piece from 2007. I thought I would cheat and grab an image of a pumpkin off of the internet. Well, it needed so much clean up that I would have been better off painting one from scratch like I did on my other image. The things we learn.
I guess that is it. Happy Halloween Y'all!!!
The Pumpkin was created by Ray Villafane. For more of his great stuff visit him at http://www.villafanestudios.com/pumpkins.htm |

| TOTALLY TINA! by Tina Francisco JinkyCoronado 2009/10/30 19:39 8641 10
For awhile now, I've been telling my good friend, animator Tina Francisco, to create a character of her own that she would enjoy drawing in pin-ups and in sequential stories.
Like me, she's a big fan of artist Dean Yeagle's work, plus she loves drawing cute fantasy imagery.
So she came up with the idea of doing a sexy young witch, still in Charm School (naturally).
What a perfect theme for Halloween on Heromroph, right? So I suggested that she call the concept TOTALLY TINA (naming her character after herself, like I did), and she agreed to let me post her first TOTALLY TINA drawing here on Heromorph, to get your comments.
Thank you, Tina.
Enjoy!
