| Draw-Off Archive: 2009 - 'Toonz' Theme - 'Legal Aliens'

As I recall we were given the challenge to conceive of an animated series/project, akin to a Saturday morning kids show... Or maybe that was just my interpretation (2009 is quite a few drinks ago, after all). Fortunately I kept their synopsis' on file, so I can still present them each intact with their concepts. Anyways, here is the next of the five concepts I developed... Legal Aliens: The humourous tale of a single father's struggle to integrate on his new homeworld of Earth after being granted asylum from his own hostile race. Newly hired government employee B'ry (Barry) of the planet 'Alie' and his two sons - badass F'tz (Fitz), and nerdly Cl'n (Colin) - hide out from their invasion-crazed wife/mother H'ln (Helen) while subtly trying to prepare their surrogate home to repel the coming Alien horde... and keep out of trouble with the strange Earthlings. |

Anyways, here is the next of the five concepts I developed, this one an animated feature rather than a morning cartoon show... Whoah-Bot: A heartwarming animated feature about a boy and his robot - albeit the robot of an alien race out to control the Earth. After an alien operative loses control of his destructive robotic tank-droid, a young human boy befriends the adventurous cybernetic constuction - teaching it human values in the process. The boy struggles to return his new pal to its rightful owners in the hope that he isn't handing over the keys for domination as a result. |

Or maybe that was just my interpretation (2009 is quite a few drinks ago, after all). Fortunately I kept their synopsis' on file, so I can still present them each intact with their concepts. Anyways, here this the final concept of the five I developed... Freak'n Genius: A scientist ('Dr. Guy') and the hyper-intelligent bunny rabbit ('Professor Fluffy') he has created carry out insane experiments in the scientist's lab. Neither character is exclusively "freak" or "genius" as both could be described as either - and as such, cause their own problems. Invariably to be solved within 22 minute timeframes. |

Homer Simpson... Again, just playing with light and structure. Another in a series of drawings I've created through playing with coloured pencils on black card. Adjusted on the PC from photo (the paper's texture refuses to scan accurately). |

I played around with a couple of small canvases I bought last year, this one evidently depicting my favourite of subjects, Mr J! Didn't mess with paints, instead I drew it with a black white-board marker and coloured it using basic felt pens. Freehand, no models. I now no longer have the original as I sold it. |

I've been using some awesome Letraset water-colour pens for some colouring and they're a joy to play with. The middle image is the original colours, the other two are alternates on either side of the colour spectrum. |

| 2015 - Joker: Purple
TemporalDave DC Comics 2016/1/12 21:53
1796 3
I discovered that some of my colour pens could "erase" certain other colour pens I have due to their alcohol content or some such... Experimenting with this technique I laid down some rough purple as a background and drew the joker in black marker. After filling his hair with green I set about adding the highlight areas (including eyes and teeth) with a yellow pen which enabled the "erasure" technique. Came up alright I reckon |

| 2008 Graphic Mouse - Graffiti Wall
TemporalDave Other Comics 2016/1/17 22:57
2019 3
The concept was to create a graphic for a virtual wall on the Graphic Mouse site... I did a "Dave" piece (left with Graffiti Mouse character) and my mate Danno (AKA Guttenburg on GM) sketched the "Mouse" piece (right) for me to add the colour effects on his behalf. This is a screen capture I grabbed of the wall when it was originally assembled on the site. I don't know that there were too many more additions to it in the end... (?) |

I am a big fan of classic Disney stuff and as such I'm a big fan of Alice In Wonderland, thus I had a go at sketching perhaps my favourite character from that film, The Mad Hatter... A very happy Un-Birthday to you! |

FLASHBACK! Comics 2 Film: The Digital Comics Gallery, or DCG, was my initiation into posting art online... I gained plenty of good advice as well as deservedly harsh critiques due to submitting art to the site, all of which served me well in progressing my skill-levels (somewhat) and (eventually) getting out of my comfort-zone (slightly) - in addition to being a site where I met many extremely talented, and incredibly nice people (Pijon!)... I made this in appreciation of the site and its members in early 2006, as it features my Superman charicature Squinty McChin whom I originally debuted on the C2F DCG... |

Decided to challenge myself with this experiment I devised to depict a face by use of only triangles. Sketched it on paper, then used the sketch as a template in CorelDraw to create more uniform neat shapes of the triangles... This is the somewhat surreal result. |
