Re: An idea. This is one of the most original ideas I've seen in a long time. Way to go. Now all he needs is an arch enemy...besides the obvious of course.

Re: An idea. Quote: Shade wrote: Heroes in the usual sense, even IF they have a religious faith, it's not their identity so people can identify with them. Hellboy, as far as I know, is a Catholic. If he was called the Horned Catholic, it'd be kind of odd.
I could get behind a hero who was a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist or whatever because faith is a characteristic of any human being, but when you define someone solely based on that set of religious beliefs, anyone who isn't a follower of that religion may find it hard to identify with him/her.
I would read a comic about a hero who happens to be a Christian, but I wouldn't read one about a guy NAMED The Christian, because, to me, the name is already preachy. lol To me, the point of comics is fantasy and when you have a clear ideological message you're trying to convey that doesn't have anything to do with telling a story, I think most readers would check out. Just my observation, though
All good points. However, there will always be segments of the fanbase that don't feel represented. This is just a character for a portion of those. And a big part of it is just therapy for me. Isn't like there will actually be a comic of this or anything.

Re: An idea. Quote: Shade : I think I'll come out with my own religious hero: The Jehovah's Witness. "When people see him coming, they run!"
Lol, although to be fair, just as many people would probably run from any Judeo-Christian based hero after seeing the bad example set by so many televangelists. They'd be worried about being asked for donations.

I thought about the mask thing. I wanted him in a mask so that noone could claim he represents any certian segment of the population. He can be an 'everyman' that anyone could identify with. And yes, just like any other belief system, even the people who claim to share the beliefs will disagree on certain aspects. Otherwise, where would I get the emotional and intellectual conflict for the stories?
