Today at work I was doodling in my little sketchbook. I wanted to draw a manga-ish female head wearing some kind of domino mask. For no good reason I thought she should be looking back over her shoulder. Then I thought she should have little wings because I like drawing wings. Then I thought it would be sexy if she were topless and covering her breast with her hand. Then I thought I would like to draw her with a nice caboose which would look good covered with a pair of blue panties. I don't know if all of that sounds as strange to anyone else as it does to me but I also found it interesting how the drawing built itself piece by piece in my head as I was drawing it.

Alex Toth was a genius at character design. Spaceghost was one of the best ones he did. I wanted to do more of a serious shot of him rather than the humorous 'Coast to coast' persona. I was pretty pleased with this one almost all the way through it. It wasn't until the end of the coloring that something went wrong. I'm not sure if its his energy blasts, the background or the cape and cowl(if not all three) but something just isn't right. Or it could be something completely different that my conscious mind just isn't catching.

*After some of the great suggestions by fellow artists I fiddled with this one a bit. I like this new one.

There is this great series of toys for little kids called Spiderman and friends that is made by Toybiz. My sisters kids have a few of them and I'll admit that I want some. They are all really clunky and cartoony but very cool at the same time. The line has a SpiderGirl character that was apparently created just for it since I've never seen the character anywhere else. I liked the design alot and wanted to do a pic of her.

Finally got to see Spiderman 3 and liked the black suit so much I wanted to do a drawing of it. Not sure if I like how this turned out or not. Cheated on the background by just finding a photo of buildings on the net. Funny thing is that its a photo of Bangkok.

May as well add SPIDEY TIME! here to get in on that event.

This is for the Sue Storm week. I tried to draw her as more of a voluptuous female rather than the thin as a rail, ribs pokin' out variety we usually see in comics. Although I'm a huge fan of those also. And don't ask me whats up with the hair. I have no idea. Hair, especially womens, is one of my MANY major weaknesses.

Yes, yes, I know The Spirit isn't this muscular. Hold your horses and let me e'splain. No there is too much. Let me sum up.

I've always liked Will Eisner's THE SPIRIT. Just as 90% of all comics fans do. And I've always wanted to do a drawing of him but the problem that has confronted me is that he's been done by the greats. Starting with the master Eisner himself, all the way down to the present day with another master Darwyn Cooke and, starting I think with issue 13 of this new series, Mike 'Hugely Underrated' Ploog. I knew I could never come anywhere near the level of any of those guys so I just went for fun and decided to do a super buffed up Spirit. Enjoy.

This is a cover I was working on for two local writers who wanted to submit a story idea to DC. The primary guy I corresponded with said he liked it and he would show it to his partner but that was a couple weeks ago so I'm assuming his partner didn't have any problems with it. I emailed them to ask if it was ok to post it here but I haven't gotten a response in about a week and a half so I'm just going to post it. I don't think anyone can steal their idea from this pic. I doubt there is enough info on the story in this image. They had planned on getting the story to DC in a couple weeks so I'm guessing its already been done. I think this turned out ok. I don't believe DC will be impressed with it in the least but I'm not totally displeased with it. I just got the logo and upc from another Superman cover.

Back around 1980, DC introduced a character called Superwoman who was a time traveler from the future. She was, I think, a history professor or something who came back in time to find out about a mysterious 'Superwoman' who showed up at that time to help Superman. Surprise, surprise, she finds out that the mysterious is none other than...herself. She was probably a casualty of the Crisis but if nothing else, she at least had a cool outfit. I wanted to do a pic of her so I have her walloping the evil Superman doppelganger from Earth....1 or 2 or whatever he's from called Ultraman.

This is Buliwyf from the movie 'The 13th Warrior'. He was the first one to volunteer so he was the 1st warrior. This is the scene just after the last battle when he sits down and dies from the poison inflicted upon him by the 'mother' of the Wendol.

That is an awesome movie. Especially that last battle scene. Buliwyf is on his death bed. Everyone is just waiting for word of his passing while they prepare for the enemy. Suddenly he comes staggering out with only his sword. No armor except for those bracers on his forearms. He plants himself at the forefront and lets the blanket drop from his back. When he starts to recite that prayer or whatever it is as the enemy rides over the hill and approaches the fort..."Lo there do I see my father. Lo there do I see my Mother and my sisters and my brothers..."

Talk about goose bumps.

Awesome movie. Best version of the Beowulf legend ever.

P.S. That guy who played Buliwyf would make an awesome Marvel version of Thor.

This is The Cardinal created by K.J. Kolka. Its the longest running Christian comic ever. Started back in the late 70's from what I hear. I don't have much first hand knowledge of it but I'm impressed that its been around so long.

Although, the fact that its been around so long and I had never heard of it may speak for itself.:)

Many of you here have seen my character The Christian. http://heromorph.com/heromorph2/modules/myalbum3/photo.php?lid=2512 I've never been pleased with the design of him(much less the art but thats another story). I fear he evokes too much of Snake-eyes from G.I.Joe with the visor/goggles look and the dark blue outfit. I wanted his design to bring to mind how powerful he must be and hopefully even a couple of people might think it a cool design on its own but I don't feel the original look does that so I took a shot at a redesign. I went for an armored look this time. I think it looks cooler but that could just be because its new. I'll have to wait and see how it looks to me in a week.

The coolest of the team.

Been watching a dvd of that old Defenders of the Earth cartoon and wanted to do a pic of my two favorites. Lothar and the Phantom.

This one was SO close. The only things that bother me are Lothar's left arm and Phantom's leg. Those screw up the whole shot.

I've been seeing lots of crickets around lately. They are one of the few insects that don't give me the creeps and I thought, "Why are there no cricket superheroes?" Probably because the cricket can't do anything much on the cool side. Doesn't climb walls, shoot webs etc. But MAN can those little things JUMP! This guy, The Cricketeer, can jump like a mile when he really has to. He has slightly tougher skin than most humans. About as tough as plywood maybe. Seemed like the right toughness to be in proportion to a carapace. He can also tell what the weather is going to do before it happens...hm, there's his alter ego right there. TV weatherman! I don't know if thats a real ability of the insect but there are rumors about it. And he can produce a loud chirping noise that can stun bad guys. Or annoy coworkers. Whichever is needed. Although, if he did it around his coworkers it would defeat the whole secret identity thing so scratch that. Oh yeah, he can communicate with real crickets.

Not an epic hero but a fun one.
