Recently I was asked to contribute some artwork to a comic that is being put together by a guy named Dan Schkade of his characters. Several different artists are working on the book and I was assigned six pages. I'm going to post them here now that they are done. I sort of collect those old 1930/40's cliffhanger serials on vhs or dvd and I found one at a flea market called 'The Masked Marvel'. I hadn't heard of it but it was a guy in a mask so I figured for 2 dollars what the heck. Its actually a pretty good one aside from being overly similar to characters like The Spirit and Dick Tracy. I think it was done after The Spirit came out so it may be a blatant rip off.
Basically just a guy in a suit, hat, and mask with no powers or anything running around trying to stop, in this case, Japanese saboteurs and such. I figured I would try a drawing of him but with the movie being in black and white I didn't know what color his clothing was intended to be so I just did it like the show and made the picture b&w also.
I kind of like how it turned out that way except that I'm not as happy with the drawing as I was before I inked it. |

This guy is The Mighty Penguin. Super strong, invulnerable, very mean. Better than explaining why he's called the penguin here is an exchange between him and a generic person who wonders the same thing:
Generic person: So, you call yourself the Mighty Penguin?
MP: Yes.
GP: Do you have penguin powers?
MP: No.
GP: ....did you somehow get your powers from a penguin?
MP: No.
GP: Are you similar to a penguin at all?
MP: Well...I can't fly.
GP: Ah I see...Then why do you call yourself The Mighty Penguin?
MP: I like penguins.
GP: Ah.
MP: They're cute.
GP: Yes, yes they are.
Anyway, I thought that would be funny and I thought it would also be funny if I made him extra mean. Nobody expects a guy called The Mighty Penguin to be very mean. Oh and I put the 'mighty' in front since DC probably holds the copyright to just 'The Penguin'. |

| Sorry to everyone who read the previous rant that was on here. I think I was just stressed and needed to release some of it. I've always liked the Spectre character but I don't know why they have never redesigned his outfit. Except for the Hal Jordan days anyway. The hooded cloak, gloves and boots I like but why the heck doesn't the guy wear actual pants? Why would he continue to run around in green underwear beyond the 40's and 50's. Anyway, I tried to design a suit for him that I thought would be cool and this is the best I could come up with. Seemed SO cool in my head. |

| I'm so displeased with that last Bat-chic pic that I had to try to do a new one to dispell the ill feelings. I think this one is better but I don't know. In case its difficult to tell, she is adjusting her hair and holding one of those small compact thingies. I felt she also needed a purse so there ya go. For better or worse. Sad part is, I feel this one is better than the last and this one is just a ball point pen sketch from my art pad that I colored and smudged around on in photoshop while the other one that I don't care much for was a fully inked drawing. |

| The three incarnations of the Red Tornado character. I've always liked this character. I do not know why. I love the fact that the original(the bottom one with the pot on the head) was actually a woman and, it may be argued, was the very first ever female costumed hero in comics. |

| This is the character of a fellow artist on DeviantArt. The character is called Nuclearconvoy. Which is also the screenname of the artist. Yes, I know that it bears a strong resemblance to Optimus Prime but many people pay homage to successfull ideas in creating their own. |

| I don't know how many people are aware(or how many even care for that matter) but there was a Daredevil superhero before the Marvel comics one. He existed back in the 40's and had one of the strangest costumes ever in my opinion.This is generally what he looked like back then. |

I've always liked the design of Ben Dunn's Warrior Nun Areala character so I wanted to do a drawing of her. I intentionally made the head overly large as somewhat of an homage to Mr. Dunn's style.
P.S. This is the last of the artwork I already had in my computer that I wanted to submit. I'll continue to post stuff I do that I'm happy with but it won't be quite as often as it has been. I'm sure the moderators will be relieved. I appreciate their patience with me. |

| I recently read a Wolverine novel by Marc Cerracini about when Logan was captured and subjected to the adamantium bonding process. There was a scene in it where Logan first regains consciousness after the procedure and kills the first technician he encounters. The image of him standing over his victim when he is discovered by security was so vivid it made me want to do this. I sketched it in my book with a ball point. |

that I would be lucky enough to land an opportunity to do some of the artist sketch cards for the 2008 Marvel Masterpiece trading card set? Miracle of miracles, thats exactly what happened! Thank you Jesus!
I did 100 of them and all but 8 were approved so I will post all the approved ones. I'm actually not allowed to post the unapproved ones.
I think some of them are pretty good, some are adequate and a few are quite a bit less so. I don't know if anyone here collects the Marvel Masterpiece cards but if anyone happens to see any of these out there would you let me know? |

| I'm not sure exactly what the problem is with this one but something really bothers me about it. Sort of seems like the top of the figure doesn't match up with the legs somehow and the head seems wrong. Not to mention the arms and hands and blah, blah, blah... The one on the left is the original layout and the one on the right was flipped over. The flipped one looks better to me which seems sad. Which looks better folks? The flat colors or the shaded? Second question: I feel like its proper to post most things I do. The work I'm 'happy' with and the stuff I'm not so that I can get authentic critiques on my work. Does everyone feel that way or should I just post the stuff I'm happy with? |
