| Leela: Stipple and Colour! Sadman 2009/6/8 14:12 2012 1
Coloured version of a previous posting.
I've been trying on and off for years to find a way to electronically apply some sort of colour wash to my drawings. Something that would add colour without destroying the original shading. Too early to tell what the limitations are here, but maybe, just maybe...
For anyone interested this was done as follows. Scanned drawing contrast adjusted for best definition. New raster layer added on top with blend mode = multiply. Colours painted on this layer with soft-edged brush. Once fully painted, layer duplicated twice. Lowest layer (directly above drawing) blend mode set to colour. Next layer up blend mode set to burn. Top layer blend mode set to multiply. Transparency of various layers tweaked to give best effect. (Tests were done along the way when selecting colours to paint with to avoid undesirable results.)
Any other techniques, anyone? |

From the Super Sentai Series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger.
Super Sentai is the Japanese tokusatu series that is the basis for Power Rangers.
Super Sentai is way superior in my opinion. |

Joined a Thundercats Jam on another site and got stuck doing Jaga. I hate that costume he wears so I redesigned him. Went for a more 'knight'-ish look. He always struck me that way.

| FLIGHT OF THE BUMBLEBEE lordcoyote 2010/2/1 6:08 2035 0
During the battle aboard the Ark as it approached prehistoric Earth Bumblebee gets into a confrontation with Starscream. But, rather than destroying the diminutive autobot the decepticon instead stuffs Bumblebee into a nearby stasis pod and jettisons it. The pod falls to Earth, landing in a river where it is eventually buried by sediment. Four million years of erosion later a stray lightning bolt frees Bumblebee from the pod. He finds himself in 1850?s Tennessee, his transformation systems damaged and not knowing where the Ark was or even if his comrades were still online. While exploring the area Bumblebee finds, and rescues a young human boy trapped in a bog. He learns that the boy, Isaiah, was part of a group of slaves who had escaped captivity and where fleeing to freedom in the north. Appalled at the very notion of sentient beings held in the bolds of servitude Bumblebee resolves to help his new friends in their bid for freedom. Bumblebee and co. share numerous adventures together. Such as run-ins with bounty hunters hired to bring the escapees back. (during which Bumblebees left optic sensor gets shot out) But Bumblebee knows he must find the Ark before his energon reserves run out and is forced to bid Isaiah and the others a sad farewell. Eventually Bumblebee finds the Ark where it crashed. But, by then his energy is so low he barely has the strength to stager inside (and give Megatron a kick) let alone climb up to activate Teletran-1. His energon finally depleted, Bumblebee collapses, lamenting his failure to revive the other autobots. Bumblebee then joins his friends, as well as his enemies, in stasis. |

Pencils, inks. I took some major liberties with the guns. Trying to get them to look ANYTHING like the movie weapons just wasn't working -- I erased and redrew so many times I think I was thinning the paper.
Colours to follow (background will be added, too), but if anyone wants to take a crack at it, by all means go for it. |

One from the archives. Back in the last century, before the Internet and even before desk-top publishing, fans had to share their interests on paper. This was how fanzine editors liked their illustrations done back then - compatible with the cheapest possible printing processes! |

| The Masked Marvel! VagabondX 2008/8/4 22:57 2052 2
I sort of collect those old 1930/40's cliffhanger serials on vhs or dvd and I found one at a flea market called 'The Masked Marvel'. I hadn't heard of it but it was a guy in a mask so I figured for 2 dollars what the heck. Its actually a pretty good one aside from being overly similar to characters like The Spirit and Dick Tracy. I think it was done after The Spirit came out so it may be a blatant rip off.
Basically just a guy in a suit, hat, and mask with no powers or anything running around trying to stop, in this case, Japanese saboteurs and such. I figured I would try a drawing of him but with the movie being in black and white I didn't know what color his clothing was intended to be so I just did it like the show and made the picture b&w also.
I kind of like how it turned out that way except that I'm not as happy with the drawing as I was before I inked it. |
