This one took me longer than any other manip I have ever done. I ran across an old image of H vs. S, and I was inspired. So I began looking for the right poses, and of course the right setting. Althought thecrowd looks fairly calm in the background, imagine for a second that this fight just broke loose, and it has not dawned on everyone yet. Much like when someone is mugged in broad daylight.
Hulk throws a vicious left at Spidey, just as he swings from above, knocking him backwards, as the behemoth charges at the camera. Can Spiderman save New York from the Incredible Hulk?? We wil just have to wait and see.

I had a great time with this crossover!  Dan and I fell into the look and feel we wanted immediately.  First we toyed with a vs. feel, it quickly gave way to the same look and feel, with the mood directed at the viewer and the hero's standing together as a team.
I guess that pretty much sums up how the whole project went together.  It was a truly collaborative effort, one I would mind doing again.

After my last post of Wonderwoman sitting on Plasticman as a chair, Bikerbot challenged me to do a Marvel pic.  Here ya go!   Clearly the jacket gave me the biggest headache, but I'm sick of looking at it for now.   The model is Natalia Sokolova.   Peace!    -Leif.

My first group shot. I made this in 2002.

I think the Avengers would make a great movie or TV series. Here's my casting:

Iron Man is a Horizon model (imagine Dylan McDermott inside); Wasp is Christina Ricci; Scarlet Witch is Paulina Porizkova; Captain America is Casper Van Dien; and She-Hulk is Gabrielle Reece.

Kang on the monitor is from Avengers 469 by Kieron Dwyer.

Gifted with human feelings, yet cursed to be the bride of Ultron, tragic Jocasta craves the Avengers acceptance, though they can never fully trust her.

The main base is model Irina Voronina. The mirror-like finish was achieved by screening distorted pieces of an earlier manip onto her colorized skin. You may be able to pick out bits of your favorite Avengers in the reflections.

To see Jocasta's POV, check out my Avengers manip.

This is actually a preview of my entry to the July Challenge. I have done a couple of different characters to put into one image and I way planning on posting each character in a separate manip afterwards anyway. But Since I have not submitted anything in a while and I just extended the deadline for the July Challenge I figured I would submit this one now.

Here's another idea i've been kicking around for a while...  these are my favorite three of all of Jean Grey's numerous costumes.  I found this model with lots of similar poses, all the same size, and decided to give this a shot.  Pictured are (left to right): Dark Phoenix, original Marvel Girl, and Jean's X-Factor costume.  Enjoy!

Okay, obscure character time, but I couldn't resist when I saw the base pic as an advert for Game Boy Advanced. Vincente has always been a favorite of mine that was criminally underused. He was in the 4 issues of the Age of Apocalypse based Generation Next, then vanished from the radar. This version has the young Jeremy Irons cast in the role. Dunno why but he seemed to suit.

A real quicky this one, taking an hour or so rather than a month or so that it seems to have taken me recently. ;)

certainly not the best of the bunch but i love the expression on her face. this took some time to do, mainly just figuring out how open the suit should be cos i wanted her to look like she was almost bursting out. the zipper wasn't as difficult as i thought it would be and i think it turned out okay.
at some point i should redo the earlier ones as they already look quite primitive by comparison.
anyway i hope you like it, i have more on the way.

alot of the SP2 pics have this sort of twilight look to them and i thought it would look good in a teaser for SP3 assuming they use the much cooler venom suit.

this is a quick manip i did of collosus using a method i came up with.  it is nothing more than multiple dodging and burning of an image and coloring via color balance to create the effect.  i hardened the face with some lines and set the layermode to overlay.  if you would like to see how the process plays out you can look at my tutorial at

Inspired by the sassy, sexy Cat that appears in the Spider-Man 2 video game.  A lot of frankensteining went into this, but I did all of the hair and fur by hand(by mouse..?), as well as some of the shinies in her outfit.  I am pretty happy with it overall, though my edges are still rough, and the cat looks fake.

Just resubmitting a larger version
Oldie. Rebecca Romjin Stamos. I think this is one of my favourite of my own manips.

Additional Art Notes: Well, it was about a week, and over 120 layers in the making, but finally here we have Rebecca Romjin Stamos as Barbara Norris aka Brunhilde aka Valkyrie. Starting with an image of RRS standing in what looked like a wheat field, first thing i did was remove out the original collar line of her swim costume. Now it was time to start the suit. I had a couple of attempts before I decided on what you see here. I used the faux leather texture to fill a new layer. I colorized this layer blue, then cut away the extra to leave only the areas that would be the suit With the initial cutting complete, I duplicated this layer twice. the original layer's mode was set to color. the second layer's mode was set to burn at 25% opacity. the third layer's was set to multiply at 75% opacity (obviously i had a bit of experimenting, but these produced the best results. The metals were all created with various layers of gradient fills and the burn tool. The cape was attempted using one of the tutorials Dperciful posted to the hints'n'tips thread(here:  Added additional texturing to the resultant material. The background is actually three seperate photo's of the Highlands up areound Ullapool - The sky and big hill is a layer, castle ardvreck & the water & hill on the right another layer, and the grass closest at the bottom on a third layer. I actually went as far as texturing Dragonfang (seen behind the title) before I remembered in this piece it would be in a scabard which is bound with rectangles with a deformed leather texture as is the sword handle. The font is Skeksis.

Edit: clarified Hints&Tips thread mentioned at C2F.

I saw a few Cap pics here, and thought I would dust off an old one of my own.   Had this one kicking around the C2F site, so I dragged it over here.  I can't remember the bodybuilders name, but I guess I was in a patriotic mood that day...
Peace!    -Leif.

this is my latest as of 2/28/04. tried to do her cape, but haven't mastered material folds yet. her metal accents came out nice, though. I like doing the more obscure heroines, but finding pics is difficult.

Have to say that the headpieces on my last few manips have given me problems, but by the time I get to them, I've lost patience and am anxious to get to the next project. Maybe I should start with them first.
Interesting sidenote: Each time I try metalics, I do it a different way, and each time I'm relatively pleased with the results. Further proof that there is no one way to pull off a manip, but experimentation is key.
(still too chicken to attempt a hero with a cape, but soon...)
