| March Madness2: Swamp Thing's New Pet pijon Monthly and other challenges 2018/3/20 13:37 1508 3
Aubrey from Little Shop of Horrors seemed a good pet for ol' Swampy. I wouldn't recommend petting this pet though. This was pencilled several years ago for a draw-off challenge involving Superhero Pets. OMG, my pencils were horrible! Swampy really looked flat and shapeless. So I thought I'd try to see if some digital inks might help it out. Not that it's any great shakes now but it took a whole bucket of turd polish just to get it to this point! |

From the vaults of obscurity comes... The Metal Men! As usual... Bryce, Poser, Photoshop. |

| Mighty Thor pijon Marvel Comics 2012/7/17 19:57 2249 6
My odd thought process here: WHAT IF Kirby had not done Thor in those early years but rather it was done by Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta. I would imagine it would've been a very different type of book with a different look, feel and type of story. This is the sort of approach I imagine they'd take. I just finished the book Al Williamson Hidden Lands. If you aren't familiar with Williamson's work from the 50's, check it out... you'll be blown away by the quality. |

| Moon Knight: Hunter's Moon pijon Marvel Comics 2007/10/14 9:05 2828 8
Happy Halloween, everybody! My first attempt at rendering a scene in Daz Studio (though I've done plenty in Bryce and a couple in Poser). |
|
| Mr. A pijon Other Comics 2010/2/1 5:47 2309 5
A tribute to (Spiderman co-creator) Steve Ditko and his character, Mr. A, the original ghost faced killah in the name of justice. While I don't see eye to eye with Ditko's Objectivist philosophies, I do admire his artistic integrity, sacrificing larger popularity and greater financial gains to follow his own vision. |
|
| Mr. Monster pijon Other Comics 2009/1/14 11:00 3422 11
Mr. Monster and his sexy and smart assistant, Kelly Friday doing what they do best. I always loved Michael T. Gilbert's over the top artist owned superhero. He probably set some kind of record after having this character published under at least 6 different companies (that I know of)! |
|
| Mr. X pijon Other Comics 2008/11/27 22:49 2942 5
Don't know how many folks are familiar with this great series from the 80's but I hear Dark Horse is set to give him a new series. Sorta tried a less is more approach here. |

| Mysterio vs. Spiderman pijon Marvel Comics 2010/3/18 22:44 2574 7
Okay, I know this makes 3 Ditko tributes in a row but I think my Ditko fever's finally starting to break. Still, thought it only fitting to end it with a tribute to his most popular character, Spiderman. |

| Mystery In Space pijon DC Comics 2008/1/8 22:59 2987 8

| Nick Fury pijon Marvel Comics 2010/5/27 15:59 2426 7
Another Marvel Universe fighting American for Memorial Day.
Thanks Vadlor for the cool Poser shaders used. Thanks Cattle for beating me to the punch with his own very cool Nick pic 1st and encouraging me to do mine anyway as well as making me rethink how to do the character.
Also used: M4 Ghost Agent M4 Pirate (eye patch) Sky Mercenary (cigar) Liquid Halo (guns) M4 Hardcore (boots) Jason Hair Jepe's Flamez and Throwz G-Spot's Explosion brushes |

| Nick Fury and the Agents of Shield pijon Marvel Comics 2012/4/27 23:30 2890 10
From Left to Right: SHIELD agents Dum Dum Dugan, Nick Fury and the Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine A couple of years ago, I had attempted to do a Nick Fury pic with a nod to artist Jim Steranko thrown in. In the end, I don't think it did a terribly effective job at paying tribute to Nick Fury or Steranko or showcasing my skills either. So... in an attempt to draw inspiration from my own lack of inspiration, I decided to see if I couldn't do a little better job on the subject (which isn't saying much). On a technical note, 2 M4's and one V4 used, bodysuits for everyone, Ghost Agent harness, M4 Witch Hunter boots, V4 Biker boots and various belts from different sets. I did a fair amount of original modeling here... Shield logos modeled and rendered in Bryce (Everything else rendered in DS3). I also built a number of items in Hexagon like Dum Dum's derby and 'stache, holsters, arm and wrist bracers and all firearm. Updated: Bouncier boobs (Contessa only) and a few other more modest upgrades |

| Night of the Turtles pijon Other Comics 2010/9/22 0:12 2321 4
As I worked on this, I was struck by the fact that what (to me) is amusingly unique of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles among all supers is that while the rest wear masks to hide their identities, turtles appear to wear them so they can be told apart from one another
Credits: Daz's Martial Arts Weapons Pack and Multi-Sword BC Rooftopper Ninjas are David with Defenders of D'Akir outfit. Splinter is Monster Rat and Jinchuu Ken and Turtles are M3 with some homebrewed textures, props and morphs.
*Fixed the mixed up masks... thanks for the heads up, Danny! |

| Nightman pijon TV and Movies 2008/8/6 20:56 2305 4
Yeah, I know, you never see pencils from me (it's pretty rare for me to pick one up these days)... I barely remember this show as I only seemed to catch it on late night cable after long nights out drinking with my buddies! It always seemed very "West Coast" to me as though I could hear some LA pitchman trying to push it on Network execs..."See there's this guy, Johnny Domino, sax player by night and crime fighter by, uh, later at night and he's got one bulgey eye and uh, one even bulgier eye and drives a purple Chrystler Prowler" ...oooh-kay (yes, that moon is made of cheese!)* *(found out after I wrote this that Nightman started as a Malibu Comic...oops!)

| Past Reborn: Micro Ventures pijon TV and Movies 2014/3/23 21:01 1844 6
Doc Carter is back and this time... ... he left the kids at home! Micro Ventures ran briefly as an animated segment on the Hanna-Barbara Banana Splits show. The 4 minute segments were about Professor Carter and his teenaged kids Mike and Jill who used a shrink ray to shrink themselves and their dune buggy to get a bug sized view of the world. The threats tended to be distant ones as the Prof lectured his kids on bug life to downplay how the Professor would transform the safety of the yard for his kids into an alien jungle looming with the threat of fatal encounters with any of the thousands of giant insect monsters out there. It could not compete with the thrills and action of the show's other segments, Arabian Knights and 3 Musketeers and lasted only 4 short episodes. Great potential never realized. I think with a little refomatting to up the thrill factor, it might have enjoyed great success. *update: mixed in a little rendered motion blur. |

| Patch Addams pijon Fantasy 2009/10/24 10:03 2493 3
Wellll, wanted to get SOMETHING in for Halloween so I figured it'd be a good a time as any to jot out a loving tribute the the late great cartoonist Charles Addams. Yup, those Addams Family movies and TV shows are based his cartoons. |

| Period Piece: Wonder Woman Nouveau pijon Monthly and other challenges 2017/2/18 17:36 1719 9
Since lateness seems to be a running theme with me lately, I decided to make this possibly the latest challenge entry ever (by around 18 months, I think)! I tried to go with a Nouveau style even though I'm completely lacking here in the floral motifs which were prominent in this style. Anyway, on to the next thing I'm late with! |

| Pijon's Animation Inspiration Map pijon Monthly and other challenges 2012/8/2 18:28 2338 6
Some of my favorite toons.. Thought I'd try an experiment to see if I'd still feel like I didn't have enough spaces... yup, still not enough I did use different sized tiles underlapping the grid to define groups of films by individuals or organizations as the 2x2 blocks (4 squares) used for Bakshi, Pixar and Disney, all of whom have larger bodies of work worth checking out too. Long 3 x 1 blocks used for Laloux, Miyazaki and Ohtomo, and just two (2x1) for Linklater. There's 2 shorts that made the list... One, The Man Who Planted Trees is 30 minutes long but worth your time. | Pijon's Influence Map pijon Monthly and other challenges 2012/8/6 17:52 3700 8
Matthew M. Laskowski AKA fox-orion has created something called an Influence Map. The idea is a very simple one: you take a 1462 H x 1000 W and divide it into a grid. You then fill those grids with 3x3, 2x2, 2x1 and 1x1 tiles containing images of whatever has inspired you as an artist. Whatever you want... photos, paintings, comics, your art, someone else's art, 3D, vector, whatever... hell, if you wanna go off the grid, go nuts! I suggested this as a monthly challenge in the forums and all I hear is crickets chirping. Everybody SEZ they want challenges but do they really? I say yr all little be-yotches who won't step up! I'm openly challenging all members, mods and lurkers to step up and do one... if you think it's too hard, it's not... if you think it's too easy you'll find it's not that either. I've opened my brain and showed you what spilled out... let's see what's in your head! You can be sure I'll be doing this little exercise again in the future. *updated- fixed category |

| Pijon's MAD Influence Map pijon Monthly and other challenges 2012/8/6 17:54 2105 3
Trying to exploit the template grid into a comic page style to pay tribute to some of the very talented and funny folk at MAD from those early and middle years. I can't believe nobody had mentioned John Severin yet in their Influence Maps, even in people they didn't include! |

| Pirate Month: Popeye pijon TV and Movies 2007/3/25 8:39 2542 7
Ya know, I'd pretty much given up on the idea of thinkin' of anything for Pirate Month Challenge but I guess you never know when inspiration will strike so I very much rushed this one out in two days (it's rare for me to spend less than two weeks on a piece these days) before the month ended. I've been trying to play with new techniques lately and here's one for ya: 3D shading of 2D drawings. I googled up a few drawings of Popeye characters, did some modest manips and gave them flat colors. I then used those pictures as textures placed on 3D models. Well, I wouldn't say it's good or anything but it is different. |

| PREZ: First Teen President pijon DC Comics 2015/1/3 17:54 2453 6
Plumbing the depths of obscurity once more... Prez Rickard, his right hand man, Eagle Free and the villainous Boss Smiley. Prez was a real clunker of a comic. Potentially a great idea, it really missed the mark and only lasted 4 issues back in 73-74 in spite of comic legends Joe Simon and Jerry Grandenetti working on the book. Still the character has shown up periodically... in Neil Gaiman's Sandman, in a Vertigo One-Shot, (grown up) in Frank Miller's Dark Knight Strike Again and in the Brave and the Bold animated TV show. |

| Punisher pijon Marvel Comics 2008/6/27 20:12 2536 10
Bryce Daz Photoshop I suppose I should thank Stonemason for his outstanding Industrial Warehouse prop used here as well as Adam Thwaite for all those cool 3D props he so generously gives away on his site like the case full of money and Bullet Time props (bullet trail, bullet, muzzle flash) used here. |

| Return of the Spectre pijon DC Comics 2019/5/10 10:55 1831 9
So maybe I can't change the past. I can still try to re-do it though. Inspired by the sort of stuff of I'd seen Ozzy and CDA doing, decided to dust off an old one of my own and rework it.
Revised: basic cleanup, removed a bunch of random lines and blotches that weren't supposed to be there. |
