a combination of the movie design and the comic design. i gave her exposed hair just to make it more obvious that it is a girl. the really hard part was making her fit into the background.

Always loved this costume. Glad they've brought it back now.
This is one of those ones where you find the base pic and the rest is obvious.
Eyes should probabaly be bigger, but when I did it looked wrong so shrunk them back down

Just cause I like the lightning. Plus they always look better with a background to them instead of a straight plain color. I like it better this way. Take another look tell me what you think.
Thanks!!

This was for dperceful's first challenge in the Challenge of the Artists tournament, Absorbing Man vs the mighty Thor. Here's the rather long-winded notes:

For my first foray into the Challenge, I wanted to have a battle scene of Absorbing Man and Thor, where thor was ambushed, with maybe the other Avengers coming to help.. For quite a few days, I was torn between whther I should manip it or draw it by hand, but ultimately I chose manipping. I used Photoshop CS primarily, and close to 120 or so layers in total. First, I drew out a thumbnail of the battle, which I then threw into PS. Keeping it as a guide, I started searching for base pics, and I happened across a bodybuilding site with a ton of poses by just googling "bodybuilder poses"
I found a back pose that was perfect for Absorbing Man, so I took it, repositioned the arms a little, and erased the legs. The pants are from a medical scrubs online catalog with a sand texture added on top, and the boots are Lugz from an urban footwear website. I made the ball and chain from scratch, using liquefy to warp the chain. Next, I found brick and metal diamond plate images on the web, and overlayed them onto the arms and ball. I used liquefy to warp the guy's face as well, and the clone tool to strech and shape his head into Absorbing Man's egg-shaped dome. Some dodging/burning to fix shadows/highlights was added as a finishing touch.
Next came Thor. From the same site, I found two separate poses, one for the upper body and one for the legs. With a little franking I was able to shape the pose into the one shown. I copied the body layer and desaturated it for the costume, erasing parts I didn't need, like the arms. I separated the costume layer into the pants and top, using hue/saturation and color balancing to color them. The helmet, belt, and boots were created from scratch. A Dolph Lundgren screencap from the "He-Man" movie provided the head, and a redhead from a hair styling website provided the hair. The helmet wings and hammer are from the Thor hammer prop set. I made the shoulder parts of the cape from scratch, and the cape itself was from a medieval costume site, recolored from green to red. I also copied a portion of the cape to make it look like Thor was holding it in his left hand. Again, used D/B to fix and enhance the contrast. Some lightning from a weather photography site, with a little blue outer glow, finished off Thor.
Lastly, the brick wall and background. I started off with the NYC background. I took a picture of Times Square from the net. Next, I used dperceful's destruction tutorial link in the Artist Help thread of C2F's DCG forums to take some chunks out of some buildings, though it's been mostly covered by the brick wall and characters. I added tiny pictures of other Avengers on the roof of a building on the left, Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron man, Wasp, and Vision. Threw all that onto a Filter-render-clouds background.
The brick wall and flying debris was last. I found a brick wall desktop background on the web, and skewed/perspective'd it to look like it's going away from the viewer. I then cut out a random hole in the wall. I recopied the layer and moved it underneath and to the right, to give the brick wall some thickness, using the clone tool and D/B to rework the wall. Filled the hole's empty space with black, and rendered some brown/white clouds to create dust. Next, I modeled some crude bricks in Blender, some 3d modelling freeware I found out about in high school. I took a picture of maybe 5-6 all flying at the camera, then moved the pic into PS and duplicated it a bunch. Lastly, added some motion blur to make it look like the bricks were flying. Added my signature as some graffiti and that finished off the background. 12ish hours and 120+ layers.

Here we have a probably well known picture of Claudia Schiffer doing a turn as Tigra.
For the most part I used the dreaded cut and paste method of frankenstiening, then a fair share of liquifying, smudging, color correction and painting (I'm learning to paint!).

This is my second attempt at a photomanip... still not where I would like it to be at ...oh well.  Oh, the model is from a base I really liked in the adults section--as soon as I saw it I thought Jean Grey :)

Comments, criticisms and ESPECIALLY tips are most appreciated.

OK so i didn't change her appearance all that much, just changed the costume colors and made the whole thing look a little more high-tech.  the Fantastic Four strike me as a group that would use lots of gadgets.  i plan on doing a group manip of my versions of the entire team.  Enjoy! comments appreciated.  Welcome Back Heromorph!!!

Hey guys!  Been way to busy to even lurk here lately, but I wanted to post my latest.  This is a pic I just finished for a kid w/ muscular dystrophy, and a huge spidey fan.  That's actually me in a halloween costume made by my wife.  I obviously enhanced the lighting (trying to correct it for the background) The rest is all me baby!  (How do superheroes stand the heat of the summer months?  I was sweating my @$$ off!)  Anyway, It was for a good cause!    Peace!  -Leif.

after doing my sue storm elseworlds pic, i couldn't let go of the idea to redo all four members of the team. here's what i spent a good portion of my sunday on, to get it out of my system.  i toyed with the idea that they wear different colored uniforms, probably from mission to mission, and carry various pieces of mission-specific equipment. due to his elasticity, mr. fantastic carries no gadgets. went for a sort of same-but-different concept for both ben grimm and johnny storm.  enjoy! comments appreciated.

Thayne_Luc sent me an image of Water Wizard and so I decided to do Ghost Rider because they are enemies. I also added all the background from images found on the net.

Thayne's art notes:
Well, I really don't know how to say I created paths, desaturated, dodge/burned/smudged the body, used color balance, dodge/burned/smudged the body again. The only thing I had a hard time with was the boots and gloves. I couldn't come up with the right color at first so I just used brightness contrast on the desaturation and then threw in some curves. After that was all done I went over it again and dodge/burned/smudged till I was happy.

Poison Ivy's art notes:
Found a motorcross biker. Redid the bike, added a skull, flames, put the costume together.

I've been working on this for a couple of months. I think it's done. I did nude poses of Spider-Man and Lizard in Poser and costumed them in Photoshop using air brushing, and Google reptile images. I found a brick section under a bridge and after a bunch of copy and paste and dodge and burn, turned it into a sewer tunnel. Look for Ant Man in the picture somewhere. There is also a cockroach. I've included a link to the full size version below. It's 3,000 pixels wide and about 3.5 mb. On that version you can make out Antman's facial expression and a reflection on the Lizard on Peter Parker's camera lens.
