(My original post got screwed up... so I'm reposting, cause the pic isn't there anymore... Here's most of the original text of my post...)
I've long had a pipe dream of being able to manip in photo-realism, and (while still not there by a long shot) this is a big step forward, compared to my older stuff.
I rendered the body in poser, with the 'nude muscle man' figure as the base (of course, I tweaked it a little...) The face is that of David Boreanaz, which is a reasonably close match to Brian Hitch's Cap. I've never liked the idea of Brad Pitt as Cap, or nearly all of the other suggestions that have been made. I think Boreanaz is a suitable compromise of looks and talent. After all... this ain't Shakespeare.
I replicated the costume fairly faithfully. I left out the shoulder patches (cause I really don't like them, even if the Govt. *would* put them on the costume) and tried to make the costume materials as realistic as possible, in terms of what might be used as a movie costume. I know that's not realistic looking scale mail... But I don't think they'd use realistic scale mail. I'd bet they'd use neoprene with a shiny finish, so that's what I shot for.
Fabricated/painted all the clothes with the following exceptions: I frankensteined the pouches and boots, and the wrinkles, too. All the other tidbits are mine: the seams, the wrinkles, the textures, the shadows.
For the shirt, I copied the selection to be textured to it's own layer, desaturated it, and locked the transparency. I used the gaussian blur filter to take away the detail, and the smudge, blur, color burn, and clone tools (variously, and with various opactities, but never more than say... 30% on any one of them) to remove the nipples. This gave me the base for the textured image. I duplicated the layer again, to have a layer to play with, and used the texturizer function (with the load texture function, I used a texture called scales which comes with Photoshop 7, but I reduced the total .pdf size before I used it, to make the "scales" smaller) to do the rough scaling of the shirt. I used the fade last effect function to back off the scaling a little bit, then opened the Liquify filter and applied the image to a wireframe I had custom made for the image, to vary the consitency and add a bit of dimension to the scales. They tend to be pinched together in the "lower places" (grooves, curves, etc...) and fuller in the broad, flat, or raised areas of the body, like the meat of the pecs and shoulders. I pulled the opacity of the layer down a little to help take more of the stark edge off the "scales," blending it with the blurred layer beneath it. I then duplicated the layer again, filled the non-transparent bits with a solid blue, and set the layer to color. I duplicated that layer again and set the layer mode to color burn. Then I played with the opacities of the two color layers until I was happy with the coloration. The shield he stands on was made from scratch, using concentric, painted circles, then merging them. I used the free transform:perspective tool, and nudged it into an acceptible angle, then used the plastic wrap filter on it, twice, and faded the plastic wrap a bit on the second time (using Poser 7's fade the last effect feature).
Covered it all in a bit of noice (monochromatic, gaussian) and faded it a bit as well.
Whaddya think? |

| "Luck Be A Lady" - Michelle Rodriguez as Domino Angelophile 2003/12/8 2:03 5631 5
I must admit, Domino's not a character who I've followed particularly closely in the X-men comics (or X-Force or wherever it was she turned up) but she has an intriguing look, if not character.
Elements come variously from pics of Emily Booth, Lara Croft and various generic female models. The 'actress' used for Domino is Michelle Rodriguez, of Blue Crush, Resident Evil and The Fast and The Furious fame. She seemed to have the look of someone who could wipe the floor with you and spit on your grave. |

| Jennifer Anniston as the Invisible Woman Daruma 2003/12/7 12:35 4533 6
I suppose I don't need to tell anyone here this, but drawing people in spandex is hard! Anyway, here is another of my "casting call" pics. I like Jennifer in this role because while she's really hot, she could still pull off that sort of matronly look. I thought about putting her in some sort of background, but I like the idea that she's still casting a shadow, and the white backing helps pull that off. I am having a lot of fun with this, but I swear, you guys make this look too easy. Comments? Critisisms? I would love to hear either. |

| Starjammer's Hepzibah - Britanny Murphy Angelophile 2003/12/4 2:30 5709 10
Done purely on a whim - when browsing through my X-men Encyclopedia I stumpled across an entry for Hepzibah - The Mephitisoid member of the Starjammers (that's alien cat-skunk person to me and you).
The 'actress' I've cast as Madame Hepzibah is Britanny Murphy (from 8 Mile amonst other things) who seemed to have the right dirty sexuality for a cat person. And the right hair. ;) |

| NEW X-MEN CEREAL_KILLER 2003/12/1 20:32 4503 4
A man had a bad case of stuttering. He went to many doctors over the years, but none of them could help him. Finally one doctor said to him "I believe I found the reason for your stuttering". The man asked, "Wha.. wha.. wha..what is my pro.. pro.. problem."
The doctor replied, "Your penis is very, very large. The weight of your penis is causing a strain on your larynx, and this results in your stuttering. The only solution to this is to perform a penis transplant." The man was really tired of his stuttering, so he agreed to a transplant. Several days later the doctor called the man up and informed him that they have found a suitable donor. The transplant operation was successfully performed and the man could speak without any stutter.
At first he was happy, but after a while he began to miss his large penis, and how the girls used to love it. He finally went back to his doctor and said, "Doctor, I am grateful for the opportunity you have given me to speak without a stutter, but I miss my old penis. Please find the transplant donor and tell him that we have to exchange penises back..."

| "Unmovable" - Michael Badalucco as Blob Angelophile 2003/12/1 2:27 6074 2
Because I just -know- everyone on this forum wants to see more semi-naked fat men. Go on. Admit it, you do!
*ahem* Okay, maybe not.
It was mostly created using a number of pictures of weightlifters and bodybuilders and then deforming them in Photoshop with the liquify tool and spherize tool to fatten him up, while trying not to distort the idea he's strong not just obese. Hope it works. Blob's actor is Michael Badalucco, a semi-familiar face from films like Leon, Summer of Sam, The Man Who Wasn't There and O Brother Where Art Thou? |

| "Wild" - Kiera Knightley as Wolfsbane Angelophile 2003/11/22 2:18 5727 7
Went completely over the top with this one and decided to do not just one manip of Rahne of New Mutants and X-men fame, but all three of her forms. I've attempted to bring some sense to it by doing it in 'comic strip' form. Hope people think it works. |

| Rogue:Longing for Touch Gouge 2003/11/14 10:44 9461 10
Well still rereading old comics and back in the day Rogue was defined by her inability to touch or be touched by other people. Then I found this base pic. And since my last pic was a kinda run of the mill Rogue I thought the character deserved a better effort from me. Hope you enjoy.

| 'Perfect' - Bianca Lawson as Monet Angelophile 2003/11/12 7:31 7019 9
M was created using a number of different model's pics - her body is made up from a few images of Christina Aguilera, Dona Speir, Izabella Miko and others. M's actress is Bianca Lawson, probably most well known as Kendra the Slayer from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The outfit came from various sources, again Christina Aguilera as well as various pics of the cast of Coyote Ugly from FHM magazine if I remember rightly. |

| 'Stripped' - Kirsten Dunst as Husk Angelophile 2003/11/11 1:45 11163 7
This is about the fifth attempt I've had at producing a Husk photomanip - unfortunately none of the others worked out at all. Evidence that not every image works out as you'd hope. I've always liked the character from Generation X to her current run in Uncanny X-men, although it was only when I came to do this photomanip I realised what a gross mutant ability she has. |

| Warbird Freshmutt 2003/11/6 13:33 4519 6
Here????????s Warbird buzzing her namesake. The model is Natasha Henstridge of ???????She Spies.??????? While there are a lot of pics of her on the www, there are none I could find of her in flight. This pose was Frankensteined together from 8 different pictures, all of Natasha. So several hours went into this before I even got to the costume stage. The plane is from a company in Florida. |

| 'Untouchable' - Claire Danes as Rogue Angelophile 2003/11/5 5:33 6914 9
This Rogue was based almost entirely on the X-men Evolution cartoon version, going for a more 'goth' look.
Rogue's actress is Claire Danes who has the vulnerable/tough as nails blend going for her. Her outfit comes from various sources, and in many cases a blend of one or more items of clothing. Some of her outfit can be found at www.cluboutfits.com. |

"I'm not a movie poster, not yet a cover replica." Dazzler is Britney Spears from the Live in Las Vegas poster. Enchantress is Christina Aguilera. Spider-man is Tobey (maybe) from the movie. Iron Man is the Horizon model. Nightcrawler is Alan Cumming, who was in X2. The design is based on Dazzler #1's cover. |

It's my first (read 2nd) time playing with photoshop as I was weaned on livepix (the majority of this is livepix).
For the most part this is unfinished because I originaly set out to cover her in fur, but it just was not working. I might try again when I've have more practice with fur (thank you photoshop).
I went back to earlier drafts and realized that I just couldnt cover up such a beautifull woman. There is a lot of details I would change, but what the heck... Stick a fork in her she's done.
Thanks for the inspiration... I just might learn something.

| Rogue in the Outback Gouge 2003/10/23 16:56 4937 7
Was rereading some old comics. Specifically the old X-men while they were based in Australia. Always liked those costumes. Might do more of the group, but not sure if I have the skill for a puple and pink armor and cloack wearing Psylock. Anyway, did this one to keep my hand in. Not entirely happy with it, but not motivated to work on it anymore either. |
