| Batgirl joshmc DC Comics 2007/2/10 4:52 6731 14
Upon browsing through the various photomanips here I noticed a distinct lack of Batgirl images, so I thought I'd make her my next project. This was a real pain to do but I'm happy with the end product. Anne Hathaway was the young lady I chose after I found a nice pose of her and combined it with a different headshot. Then came the real fun bit, finding as many hi-res images from Batman Begins, which after several hours, lead me to only 4 decent images, half of which were ridiculously dark. I then had to substitute various parts of the outfit with everything from leather to wetsuits to latex, basically whatever I could find to match. Ohh the pain!! Pretty much based the entire suit off the latest Batman flick, no real changes except some subtle details to fit with the female form. Started this on Dec 2, finished on Feb 10. This is the first and last time I do a Batgirl, you couldn't pay me to do another one. Never, ever, ever again..... |

| Challenge of the Drunken Ape's Round 3: The perfect end to a perfect day Winterhawk DC Comics 2007/2/7 18:16 3835 7
The image: I did this in Poser & Photoshop. A mix of techniques, original render done in poser, lots of post production, some of the poser models had clothes some did not. I did a lot of painting in photoshop for the capes and costumes. Basically the same thing I did for rounds one and round two. I made massive art notes for both those rounds so you Judges should know what I did.
The story behind the image: As quite a few of you all know, I am a bit of a Batman fan. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that I decide to do a Batman image. Keeping with Dan's defining moment in the DC Universe I went with the above. It is an original composition based on the sub-story of Batman:The killing Joke. In the Sub-story that this picture is based on the fact that one Bad day can change a life. The Comedian was a failing stand-up comic, who couldn't find work, He made a deal with some Criminals to be an inside man on a robbery They had to go threw a chemical plant he used to work at to get to a building next door. The night the Job was going down, He was informed his pregnant wife got killed by an electrical shortage on a baby bottle warming device. The Mobsters would not let him back out of the caper. During the robbery they made The comedian was made to wear a Red Hood and cape and dress in a suit, as they had a series of robberies with the Same M.O. They would get a inside man to wear a red hood and they would follow him as the leader, Police and Batman thought the Red hood was the gangs ring leader rather then realizing that he was a different person in each robbery. During the robbery the chemical pant had changed security and hired armed guards. In a fury of bullets and mayhem the thieves and the Comedian ran through the plant, all of the mobsters had gotten shot and killed by the security guards and the Comedian was running scared out of his mind. Batman early in his career showed up and chased the Red Hood. Fearing for his life and soul and the horror of seeing the mobsters blow away in front of him, still in shock from the news of his dead wife and unborn child, The comedian reaches his breaking point and now also has a giant human bat chasing him. The only way to escape was to jump into a large chemical vat. Once in the chemical bath, The comedian almost drowned in the toxic mixture but he was flushed away into a nearby river, where he managed to swim to shore. Upon removing the Red Hood, The comedian noticed his reflection in a puddle. He was no longer just any Man, His skin was bleached white and his hair was green, after this the comedian snapped and became the Joker. Personally, I can't think of a single character that has effected the DC Universe more then the Joker, shooting Batgirl making her Oracle, Killing Robin, interacting with every single major hero and villain at one time or another, and making life generally very interesting for Batman himself, who is one of the three main DC characters. The moment above is particularly important because of a few things: One if Batman was faster and was able to catch the comedian before he jumped into the chemicals the Joker would never be, this early failure of the Dark Knight caused thousands of deaths in the DC universe as well as a great deal of pain and suffering for the Batman himself. Also if the Batman did not chase the comedian he would have most likely been shot and killed by the security guards. The early attempts of Batman to be a hero has caused the deaths and suffering of thousands of people in the DC Universe as well as creating his greatest adversary and he doesn't even know that he had a direct hand in the creation of the Joker. There would be no Joker without Batman. Indirectly Batman is the cause of all of Jokers victims including Jason Todd.
Enjoy! |

| Challenge of the Artists final challenge VagabondX DC Comics 2007/2/6 23:45 2806 5
This is the beat down Superman received from the combined efforts of Batman, Flash, Green Arrow and the Atom in the first book of that Dark Knight Returns 2 that DC did a few years back. This is for the final challenge of that Challenge of the Artists contest. The challenge was to do a character defining moment from the DC universe and most people I asked wanted the fight from the first Dark Knight Returns between Supes and Bats but I liked that this one had more characters. |

Alex granted permission to color. I think she looks teen enough. Anyway, I thought I would slap a color or two on this and run it up the flagpole. Good job Alex! Hope the colors I used are to your liking. I figure you were going for a see-through effect on her blouse, so the chest strap barely shows through. |

| JSA: The Old Guard blubeetle3 DC Comics 2007/2/4 16:42 2998 5
Yes, these guys are your (grand)parents' superheroes!
If the "Trinity" is the backbone of the JLA, these three are the heart-and-soul of the JSA!
WILDCAT- Former world heavyweight boxing champ Ted Grant had gone the distance with Joe Louis. The right hook Louis felt is the same that a lot of criminals have felt! Wildcat has helped trained a lot of today's heroes (including Batman, Nightwing, and Black Canary).
THE GREEN LANTERN- Before Abin Sur gave Hal Jordan his power ring, Earth already had a Green Lantern. Alan Scott found a magic lantern, from which he fashioned a ring to fight against injustice. Unlike modern Lanterns, Scott's ring had a weakness to wood, not the color yellow.
THE FLASH- Jay Garrick is the man that would inspire many to take up the mantle of "The Flash". Barry Allen was a life-long fan even before the accident that would grant him super-speed. The others to follow Allen all held a deep respect and admiration for Jay Garrick.
Yes, this is a "character piece"! Get used to it! |
