| After many tweaks and adjustments this is the final version of the inside of Obsidian's helmet..Iron-Man style...Iron-Man is sorta the standard when it comes to power armor characters and I've taken a lot of ques from that character when developing my own. I never wanted Obsidian to fly, as an aspect of his armor. Jump high yes, Levitate yes, survive high altitude falls yes, but not fly. flight indicates that your character is no longer street level and is ready to be a SUPERHERO and since Obsidian is a mercenary I couldn't do flight...now I have no problem adding a flight pack later which is perfectly fine. In that respect Obsidian is more like Batman...so think of him as a combo between Iron-Man and Batman. Sorry for the rant LOL No I'm not. |

I set out to create a fun ARCHIE cover that not only showcased the current way Archie is being drawn in the Mark Waid-written ARCHIE series, I also want to nod at the classic style. So my best idea was to put Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Jughead, and even Hot Dog up on stage, and a member of the audience is taking their photo with an iPad. But the iPad captures them as they looked at the time of the first album for THE ARCHIES (performed by Ron Dante, and produced by Don Kirshner, who produced the earliest songs of The Monkees).
This is my concept art, finessed by Larry Tuazon, scanned and cleaned up by my brother Pejee, and colored by Katrina Ma Hao. The drop-in of The Archies classic image is, of course, from Dan DeCarlo.
I hope you like this final version. I am happy I got the chance to show you my process from original pencil to finish!
