hey there,
the year was 1972.an author named martin caidin penned a book called cyborg which later became a hit tv show.we all know the story.
while i was coming up with a concept for this i got to thinking, imagine this :
colonel steve austin wakes up in a hospital, looks around with one good eye,wait 2,one works normal the other is like surreal 3d.then he thinks 'oh wow some jello' so he reaches out with his left hand...hmm feels kinda funny...and crushes the cup...wth? so he rolls outta the bed like denneneneneenne oops cracked the floor...room's like omg i can see they need a new cleaning lady.
then reality hit... 'i was headed for the stars annd' ...reality hits part 2..."a man barely alive...we can rebuild him..."
lol see this is why i wanted to be an artist.so i put my own spin on my favorite heroes and just maybe someday some kid will see something i did and do the same.

actually i think we're all a little young to remember pam grier's foxy character. i was about 8 when her movies came out.like most things 70's everything seemed to be rated R.these days nobody so much as bats an eye at a pair of booty shorts lol.quiet as it's kept i didn't actually watch it till i was maybe 20 something and kinda cheesy.but on the real pam was and is still a hottie.

I arrive in the city of Abu Mazar, a bustling metropolis with a population of about 1 million Solarans, and 2 million Egyptians. There are animal headed people everywhere and to blend in I use the holographic emitters in my suit to make me look some random person. with the auto-translation circuits it's no problem to appear to be one of the locals.
I ask around and find the LIbrary of Ptolemy is a massive stone building. Scans reveal advanced complex crystalline circuitry within the stones themselves a technology I have never seen before. It goes from home to home and is apparently used for everything from mundane household purposes to advanced security and weaponry. The Egyptians have even used it to create animated stone guardians. I'm impressed to say the least. I mean here is a society which looks rather primitive but in actually may be far more advanced than any I have ever visited. The stealth factor here is enough to make a ninja like me positively jealous. As I enter the library I am scanned repeatedly and were it not for the advanced spoofers in my suit I would've been busted the second I walked into this place.
Looking around there is a tone of art and statues decorate every inch of the place. There's a massive golden archway in the center of place which connects to the various alcoves of knowledge. On my right is an alcove which utilizes modern computers to store massive quantities of information and is connected to the Intergalactic web. Nice to know some things aren't made better with stone tech. I decide that will be my access point. The hard copies stored throughout will make it much harder to find what I need. Hopefully they've stored digital copies on these mainframes.
As I turn to make my way to the alcove a beam of energy streams past my head vaporizing some poor bastard who probably never did anything to anyone.
"Consider that a warning...Obsidian Mask!"
I've been made, how I don't know but the jig is up so I drop the facade and turn to face...him!
"I didn't know any of Abominous's lackeys were mentally challenged."
The large gray skinned man has a pair of Nagas with him and they look like tough customers. I don't buy into looks and rely more on what I know or can scan.
The Khopesh swords they carry have that crystalline circuitry throughout and as best as I can tell fire energy beam like the one that killed that bystander. They're not holding them like that though they want to cut me because they know from their master Apophis that I'm vulnerable to slashing weapons. Nice. I wonder if they also know I'm an expert swordsman with a nasty blade of my own. With my left hand I pull out "God slayer" and select the energy setting. The hum of the matter/Antimatter reaction within the blade is unsettling even to me. I mean it's hard to believe that that there's 35 billion gigawatts, the equivalent destructive force of a 275 kiloton warhead just vibrating away in the palm of my hand. it will destroy nearly any matter it comes into contact with. Unsettling is putting it mildly.
with my right hand I draw one of my heavy pistols and set it fire piercing ammo that's sure to drop the Egyptian god before me. Apophis is in for one helluvah surprise. The two nagas square off with me while Apophis watches. Khopeshes in hand, one male one female and both ugly as hell...I can't stand Nagas, something about being half snake gives me the willies. The female lunges first and I shoot her dead. She falls to the ground writhing as snakes tend to do. The males becomes enraged, apparently they were a couple, and reacts with emotion...a big mistake, one that costs him his life as I plunge my sword straight into his heart and out of his spine. Before he can fall I take a shot at Apophis who reels from the impact. AS the nagas eyes roll into his head and his limp body slumps to the ground I turn my full attention to the Egyptian God before me. He is the god of Darkness, which is similar to most shadow gods but he is no minor deity he's one of the heavy hitters. Unlike other gods though the Egyptian gods have no avatars so this fight is for keeps.
The room fills with darkness and he hits me with enough force to send me through the library to the streets below.
"Abominous sends his regards assassin!"
I land on my feet like a cat and he does not seem ammused.
"I thought Abominous was dead? No just took a brisk lava bath did he? I'll have to rectify that when I'm done with you."
"You think to destroy a god mortal?"
Mistake number one.
"I am the god of darkness and you do NOT possess the means to so much as scratch me!"
Mistake number two, and the more fatal one at that.
"You think so do you then come down here and face me coward, or is the god of Darkaness afraid of a lowly mortal and his blade?
Gods have a lot of pride, and they don't like being made light of. They have a need to make you respect their power and it drives them crazy when you don't
"Impudent worm!!! Feel my power and kneel befor emy might!"
A beam of dark energy hits me square in the chest and after my run in with the Maetriks I'm a tad worried, but my armor does it's job and harmlessly absorbs the hit. Apophis lands before me and we go at it. He's a bit weaker than me physically but he makes up for it in sheer speed. Then finally it happens....he jams his magical Khopesh right in my ribs. My left lung is punctured and I cough a bit of blood into my helmet. I grab his sword arm and edge my own sword closer. His Immortal skin begins to blister from the heat of blade and he looks confused. At the first touch of my sword he screams and the look of confusion is instantly replaced with terror. He teleports repeatedly but as long as I'm holding him he can't escape me. His strength is the only thing keeping him alive...but it isn't enough. I activate the nano irises in my gauntlets, the gauntlets which have been coated in Absorbium 120... The precious ore which can drain the very life from a living being and as begins to drain his immortal life his strength fails him and my blade plunges through.
As he feels his life end he looks at me bewildered.
"How? You are but a mortal...no mortal can fell a god."
I remove my helmet and as my ears pop he looks even more puzzled.
"Elf, an elf? No! Abominous what have you done to meeeee."
I feel his divine energy course through my veins as I become the new god of Darkness. It is REAL power far greater then even thet which I gained from Moonshadow. I begin to take on Apophis's physical characteristics and stature. That is when the others arrive. osiris, Nephthys, Thoth, Set, Anubis, Isis and several more whose names escape me.
Isis steps forward and speaks for the group as I regain my own appearance and heal my wounds. She's absolutely gorgeous and her voice is like a chorus of angels.
"Come with us Obsidian lord of Darkness."
A portal opens and we step through, the people of the city stare in awe. To see one of their gods is a rarity, to see all of them could very well mean the end of all things. Mortals...sometimes their so gullible.
I step a hall with a massive table and a chair for every one of the gods assembled including one for Apophis.
"What is this?"
I say not sure if they're accepting me or if they're about to chastise me. Osiris points his finger at me and says
"You have taken the power of Apophis and with it you must assume his duties."
I already knew that when I confronted him.
"And those would be?"
Thoth the god of knowledge speaks next and he sounds a bit worried.
"Well, that is the problem. Apophis had no duties, nor worshipers, nor did he have any responsibilities. He only wanted to destroy. We are concerned that should you keep his power, which is considerable even for one of us that it may corrupt you."
I don't like the sound of that...I have seen how that works in the past. A team I was with found an artifact and one by one it consumed them with it's power...it was...ugly. I was the only survivor..because I resisted the temptation...and killed the last of them.
"Fine then, I don't want this power remove it from me, find me one who is willing to take it and I will bestow it upon them."
"it is not that simple."
Isis adds,
"You can relinquish this power only upon your death."
"Um saywhatnow? I have no intention of dying any time soon."
Osiris speaks next
"ENOUGH!!! Our choice is clear. We must not let Apophis's evil continue. Obsidian you must die so them millions may live."
"Look Osiris, I'm not here to make problems and I appreciated the help on Namae, but I'm not dying for anyone, and if it comes down to it...I'm the only one holding a relic. I don't want to fight but I will."
"HUsband," Isis interjects placing her hand upon Osiris's chest. "What if we could seal his power so that he has time to grow with it, rather than wield it all at once?"
"I can live with that Osiris, can you?"
"SO BE IT!!"
The next few days are spent with Thoth devising a spell that will shackle Apophis's power within me until such time as I master each one...or until I die. My first power will be the ability to summon seven demons (Like I don't have enough problems with demons) who will serve me faithfully. I can return them at any time, and the demons may be of any class, even demon lords. afterwards I will have control over serpents and serpent beings...ugh I hate gods for just this kind of crap...I don't see a need to use any of these powers in the foreseeable future so for now it's status quo. While I'm here though and I have Thoth's attention I ask him about the Maetriks, and get far more than I bargained for...they are ancient enemies of the Egyptians which is why Osiris came to me in the first place...they have a weakness and it is one I can exploit, and they also have a home...well more of an origin. But that's for later...right now I need to go home and rest...my family and friends are probably worried considering how long I've been gone.

My visit by the Egyptian god Osiris has me thinking that maybe they know more about the Maetriks than it would at first seem. The planet where they hold the most influence is a strict low tech world so I'm left with my horse and a few guns. No ships are even allowed in orbit...unless of course you want to piss off an entire pantheon. I choose a landing point far outside of any populated area but near enough to what my ship's scanners tell me is the a vast library. A trek through the desert would kill most travelers after only a few days but not me. My armor keeps me cool, and there's internal food fascimilators so I'm good for supplies as long as the suit's power supply lasts. The power supply of course is something I'm not worried about considering the suit powers itself. My horse is cybernetic...robot body horse's brain...in actuality a Cyberbrain with a horse's essence transferred into it. No food or water it just keeps going the very act of moving charges it's power cells. An oasis is a nice pit stop anyway. A couple of hopeful vultures fly overhead hoping to find a quick meal but they move on after figuring out I'm not on the menu. As I stare at the sky's reflection I can't help but feel like I'm being watched. I don't ignore those kinds of feelings so I do a scan of the nearby area, I detect lots of insects and even a giant snake but otherwise nothing out of the ordinary...Yeah, I've seen that movie before though. Just because I can't scan it doesn't mean it's not there. I also don't rely what I can see . I'll have to keep my head on a swivel while I'm here. Traveling by mount is slow and a bit tedious. I could cover in minutes what is now going to take days. Don't get me wrong, my mount can run for days without getting tired but I can't. I get rest when I can and Onyx serves as a wonderful sentry along with a few forcewall spells. I'll reach the library in roughly 6 more days, and onse I'm there I'll need a few holographic disguises to keep things calm...I wonder how Onyx feels about being a Camel heh heh heh. I'd kill for a hovercycle...or a magic carpet.
The days pass quickly without event but I still can't shake the feeling I'm being watched. I finally give in and cast a couple of detection spells. I know it doesn't seem it but I'm loath to use magic. Somehow it feels like cheating. It's like a shortcut that I could easily get addicted to. It's so easy to become reliant on spells to get things done when things get too hard for technology or the mundane. I love my sword and it was made to my exacting specifications but still, I'm no mage and I don't want to get a reputation for using magic I really enjoy springing that one on the bad guys. I often mislead people into thinking I'm using technology instead of magic. The spells don't reveal anything magical or any kind of scrying. Still the Oni ninja masters believe that when you look at someone you connect your chi with that person. That's how you know when someone is staring at you inside their vehicle when you're at a traffic light. It seems superstitious but using the tactic of never staring at a person's head hasn't failed once. Right now, I feel like someone is staring at mine.
As night falls I do something I have never done in my life. I set up a decoy. A holographic remote with some magic thrown in for good measure. It'll reda as alive if checked for magically and the batteries on the drone will last a few days I program the thing to go through a daily routine of ride and rest. In the dark I find a nice deep shadow and create some magical darkness to conceal myself and Onyx. I activate the drone and Onyx and I go stealth. We cannot be seen nor heard. At sunrise the drone does exactly what it's supposed to and breaks camp climbing up on the drone mount and heads off to continue the journey. As Onyx and I watch I make note of three figures who discreetly follow only a few minutes later from the cliffs high above the ravine we've been travelling in. They're good too the stop when the drone stops and the remain motionless behind a magical cloaking field. I hop on Onyx's back and we take a new path. Now I'll tell you this: Onyx doesn't need to walk, he can fly but that's supposed to be a no no here so I have him fly very low to the ground, only he doesn't leave any tracks. I do this for several miles. Picking up our trail will be next to impossible. The next thing I do is haul it as fast as Onyx can go which is a whopping 300 kph. with our pursuers on foot and following the drones it'll be impossible at best for them to catch up.
Normally I like to find out who is following me and who they work for but not today. No, today I have an appointment at an ancient library. |

I have returned to Namae where I hope to find some clue as to what happened to Ichio and I am greeted by the local authorities. They explain that because of my diplomatic ties I must be escorted while on the planet and that my ship must remain docked. I do manage to get clearance for my hovercycle while here so it's not a total wash. They assign me a cyborg (yeah like it could keep up) and I am told she's one of the most powerful on the planet. Knowing the Namae...that's saying something. I begin by searching Ichio's home in the high rise district, and area so densely populated that the residential area is all high rise buildings. Ichio's apartment is on the 29th floor of one of these high rises which makes for one helluvah climb as the elevator quite naturally, is out. Combing through his apartment I find a receipt for his charter flight and the name and logo of the agency who booked it. I also pick up residual traces of nanotech on the card itself. in the letters, and it doesn't take long for my suit's scanners to apeshit.
"WARNING Nano-intrusion detected! Activating countermeasures." a low powerwed EMP stops the little buggers in their tracks and the sub-nanite scrubbers collect the little bots and contain them for the time being. I say nothing to the cyborg police woman who seems oblivious to the event. As I leave she puts her hand on my shoulder and asks:
"You were planning to share that evidence yes?"
No flies on this one here.
"Of course, I'll get you a sample when we return to the station."
She is far more perceptive than she lets on. Something I'll have to be mindful of in the future. I have tried repeatedly to scan her systems but her masking tech is some of the best I have ever seen and my sensors can break it.
"Where to now Mister...Mask is it?"
"Obsidian, just call me Obsidian or Kokuyōgan in your tongue."
"Ah so you speak our languages then?"
"A couple of them yes. I spent some time here a few decades actually."
"Were you here for the Nacron invasion?"
"No just after during the cleanup."
"That was a terrible tragedy, for the whole planet."
"It seemed so to me."
"May I ask, are you expecting this to be the same or similar?"
"I hope not but my sources say there's no system safe from these Maetriks are apparently cyborgs like yourself except that they're out to end all life that they cannot control and add to their collective or hive or whatever they call themselves."
"My understanding is that they can usurp electronic devices and basically anything with a computer."
"If you're wondering if you'd be at risk the answer is yes. Ichio was killed by these machines and gods only know what happened to him. He wasn't a cyborg in fact he was just a man and they used him to lure me out. Now It's my mission to make sure that's a decision they live to regret."
"It sounds like you cared deeply for your friend."
"He saved my life many times, and he was a good man. You mortals are a rare bunch and we elves don't like to get to close to too many of you. You are bright sparks in the universe, with a light more brilliant than the stars themselves then you're gone in an instant. Once in a while a mortal comes along and changes our lives forever, the way we think, act, or feel...I think that's a mortal's true purpose...to change the way the immortal races view the universe. Ichio did such a thing for me."
"I can see why you would want justice for him then."
"Justice? No my friend this has nothing to do with justice. Justice is for beings capable of regret. The machines have no understanding of the concept."
"So you are seeking vengance?"
"Absolu- what the?"
Looking out of the apartment window my eyes cannot believe what they're seeing. Beings who have not made their presence known in eons are hovering high above the city. A giant pyramid shaped starship hovers ominously overhead and the cyborg and I high tail it to the street below.
"What is that thing, I'm not familiar with the type of ship."
The cyborg's words are lost on me as I frantically scan the ship to find the damned emblems that identify the GOD it belongs to. Egyptian gods aren't like other gods, they do not exist in some distant dimension like say the Olympians, or the Asgardians, no they exist here in the mortal realm, with their full divine strength. I say a silent prayer to whatever gods may be listening and hope there is some kind of divine intervention coming. It's one thing to challenge an avatar, but quite another to challenge a god in person. Finally my scanners locate the symbol...Osiris god of the afterlife. At least it isn't Seth or Anubis.
The ship is quickly surrounded by Namaean forces but according to my scans they're just asking to be destroyed. The egyptian gods tech is among the best the entire known universe has to offer. Their most formidable weapon...an antimatter cannon. How that even works I have no clue.
"We need to help evacuate these people Obsidian, if that thing wants a fight these people are right int the mid-"
"If that thing wants a fight we're all dead. I need to speak to them...now. I need access to my ship."
"Why YOUR ship?"
"Because my ship has the power to drive these guys out of here if they get nasty and your don't."
"I see, in that case..." She pauses for a minute her eyes roll nearly to the back of her head and I can tell she's accessing a mainframe (robot tells)."Access granted you now have clearance to be in our airspace."
In an instant we're aboard the Lillun-2 and I hail the giant pyramid, a ship which vastly dwarfs my own. The ship's insignia identify it as the Nyuserre.
"Attention, Nyuserre this is Obsidian Mask, please state your purpose and intent."
After a moment...we receive a reply. Text only. Tne message reads: "Move over."
I step to one side and instantly there stands before me a massive green skinned man, with a pharaoh's beard, partially mummy-wrapped at the legs, wearing a distinctive crown with two large ostrich feathers at either side. In his hands is a large book with only two visible pages. He looks down at me and says.
"You are Obsidian mask? Answer truthfully and know that the eye of Osiris compels you."
I can feel the power of the god's eye but I was gonna answer anyway.
"I am. What do you want of me Oh god of the afterlife?"
Gods love all the formal crap, makes me sick to my stomach actually.
"I have come to gift you, who seeks the destruction of the Maetriks. A gidt of great power so that you might find and destroy this enemy of all."
Egyptian gods value and use technology as much as anyone in this universe and as such they would probably be susceptible to the Maetriks should they choose to attack them, and they most likely would.
"Thank you lord Osiris, I humbly accept your most generous offer (don't laugh it's not easy for me to talk like this.). What mighty gift have you seen fit to grace this humble servant with?"
"I give you the book of Thoth, that you make undertstand the animals of the universe and the other is to understand the minds of the gods."
"A truly generous gift great Osiris, and I am honored to recieve it from your in person. You do my house great honor indeed."
Having a god grant you an audience is pretty awesome, having one pay you a personal visit is unheard of...unless you know the gods I know.
"The honor Obsidian is mine, I have learned of your great deeds from the God Karr and his pantheon, the universe is many times in your debt. I ma saddened that we must ask you once again to place yourself in danger for those who will never know the good you do. Upon your successful return my peers and I would like to show our gratitude for all you have done."
I bow, genuinely. "Thank you. It's an honor to hear you speak those words, and I mean that. I rarely receive thanks for my deeds and I would never presume to ask for any, but it warms my heart to hear it nonetheless."
With that, the mighty god of the afterlife places the tome in my hand and returns to his vessel. For once I'm a bit speechless. The mighty Pyramid ship departs with haste and I am left there feeling for the first time that what I do and the sacrifices I make are noticed by someone at least and appreciated by at least a few.
I bid the cyborg farewell and set course for Kryllia 4 the home base for the Travel agency that Icio used to book his ship. Time to get some answers. |

I didn't want to be here. But sometimes there's challenges one simply cannot turn their back on and if this bunch of heroes, and nutjobs wanna call me out...Fine. But all is not fair in love and war and this is war. To that end I return to an old stomping ground of mine to pull some things out of mothballs. There is no sentient life on this world, and that is my fault...what I hid so far below the surface is unfathomable by most mortals...a thing most foul. When it comes to light I'll have the attention of the gods themselves and nearly every cosmically powered being in the universe will have its eye focused on me and my actions from this point on...I hope you guys are happy...this you have wrought upon yourselves as I prepare for....The Smackdown.
