| POISON IVY

This piece has been sitting in my sketchbook for almost a year, screaming to be created. I started modelling Poison Ivy with every intention of putting her in a piece with Harley Quinn, but the model was never quite high enough in quality.
Over the last 6 months, I've modelled her from scratch 3 different times, tried several different outfits and textures, multiple hair styles, a dozen different poses, and even a couple alternate backdrops. It just never felt right.
This past weekend, I sequestered myself in my studio and told myself I'd finish her one way or another. Several sleepless nights and it's finally ready to be shared. I have a laundry list of items I'd like to alter/tweak/experiment on, but I have to call it done or I'll end up starting all over again. |

For the Uk, I've been waiting until my skill at manips increase a bit so that I could make one of my favourite comic characters from that country. Altough on many covers, the character wears a yellow suit, on the comics he wears black, for the gadgets I decided to go more on a retro look. I also realize my choice of actor to play the Spider isn't the best, this dude is too young and with little resemblance to the character but my reason here was mostly because of the expression on the original base image that for me it's perfect for a cold vigilante.
The Spider appeared in the 26th June 1965 edition of Lion magazine created by Ted Cowan, aiming to be the new king of crime by recruiting an army of criminals.
Later, he changed sides and begun to fight crime instead.
The Spider isn't a super-powered hero but in many of his adventures, we learn that he has super intelect and a wide array of skills (including the ability to climb walls without apparatus, and hypnotism), a bullet-proof costume (which included a jet-pack), and a massive arsenal of gadgets. |

1st Appearance Green Lantern V4#9.
Mark Richards was a former U.S. Marine who went missing after his helicopter crashed a few years ago. He was presumed dead until he showed up in Gotham as a hit man. All his victims had tattoos of their sins.
Notes: The "living tattoos came out ok I guess, not what I was shooting for exactly. I probably could have saved my eyes a lot of pain if I had just frankensteined a pair of jeans on him, but I wanted to try drawing them. The gold stitch was a pain. Hope you enjoy! Another comissioned coloring job, and my first DC lineart I've done--this piece is incredibly detailed. Almost fanatically detailed. It loses a lot in the resize down from hi res, but is still an interesting take on the character.

So far, the Heroines and Villainesses Pie Throw event has been a surprise money maker, especially since none of the pastries involved sold at the HM bake sale. Next up is DC super villainess Poison Ivy. Ivy blows a kiss as if in defiance of the next thrower, whose turn it is to pie Pam's pulchritudinous puss as Wonder Woman and referee JrMcDeath look on.

I'm sure I read an interview with the chap who wrote the story that introduced Nyssa into Dr Who in which he said he'd visualized Traken akin to feudal Japan rather than the Italianate Renaissance that the designers put on the screen. What might have been! |

This drawing is probably around 8 years old. This was done back when Wizard magazine had art contests. The contest was to draw the Kyle Rayner Green Lantern defeating Dr Light in an original way. I just sent in the black and white ink drawing since I didn't have photoshop back then but I did get one of the 20 1st runner up prizes which was really cool. I got some autographed comics. I found this recently and thought I would add some color. Just remember, the drawing is 8 years old.
I don't know how long Dr Light had this outfit but its the one he had during the contest and I can't find an image of it anywhere on the freakin' net to use for a color reference.
Oh and in case anyone has the issue of Wizard where they printed the winners, you won't see mine. They didn't print it! Maybe because it wasn't colored. |
