Okay this "God" thing is kinda cool but the power itself has some unique aspects, things you think you'd normally be in charge of just go according to divine will aka the power itself influences decisions based apparently on personality and well, I look like freakin Spydra. Same armor as I always use but with 8 creepy looking spider legs sticking out of my back, and of course as a demigod I can't create an avatar and after hearing what one of those really are I don't want to. I mean would you really want a remote controlled you? In any case I end up looking like some kind of superhero. The up side is I'm physically very powerful fast as well with a whole host of abilities I have yet to fully explore, but my little clone is in for one helluva shock when I find him, and here on Thrassa 4, a burned out planet that ended with a devastating nuclear war, I just might find my quarry. In the distance I see his fighter, and while I'm not sure what he's looking for here, I am certain that once I find him I'm gonna beat the answers out of him before I tear out his spine...Wow that last comment was uncalled for, I have to get a handle on these divine emotional outbursts...something bad could happen or worse yet it could change me...into something dark.
I set my hovercycle on a distant rooftop far from my quarries ability to detect, and then summon a couple of spiders to use as spies. With my new powers I can see through their eyes and hear what they hear like little spy drones. and they will go completely unnoticed unless they attack him...and they won't.
"Shadowveil, are you inside the structure?"
His radio is loud to a spider, and the itty bitty teeny tiny one on his shoulder is right next to it.
"Yes master Nechronos, I am searching for the relic now."
I shadow slide to where he is with ease, an ability that allows me to travel from one shadow to another and remain unseen. I find myself in the unique position of either getting the jump on him and taking my revenge or finding out what he's up to. I choose the latter. The spider legs on my back are not a show piece they are functional and allow me to climb effortlessly onto the ceiling unheard and unseen. As the imposter searches high and low I use spiders from everywhere to keep tabs on him. He reaches a vault and that's when I know exactly what I have to do next. Using my shadow slide I enter the vault and jam the lock, which won't stop him for long but a quick Forcewall spell should stop him form cutting through the door. once inside I begin EMT-ing everything in the vault, whatever he's looking for he won't find it in here today.I step back into the shadows and out of the vault. He looses his little clone mind and slashes the hell out of the vault door it fall to pieces before the might of my blade. I want it back and the instant I find out what he's looking for I'm taking it. as he starts to enter the vault I dispel my magic and let him through.
"Master Nechronos, the vault is empty. and it looks like it was recently...very recently"
He begins looking around and I know he's scanning for me but mortal technology is no match for divine power. After a couple minutes he stops to call his boss..again
"I have made a complete scan of the area, the time key is not within range. I don't understand master, I detected it here and my scanners are not easily fooled."
"Someone has obviously beaten you to the punch, return to base and destroy the building."
I see him reach for an anti-matter grenade (at least it looks like one) and I web the damned thing to his hand.
"What the?"
It's an ambush of the highest degree he is lost and as I web one foot, then the other, running circles around the room unheard and unseen. In mere moments he is bound from head to to toe minus one spot.
As I step from the shadows I use my spider legs to remove my blade from his belt and place it firmly in my hand.
"I don't know who you are you Spydra wannabe but you are seriouslly messing with the wrong guy. Drop dead."
The last time he and I met he chuckled when I said that, the noise that comes from my mouth is a total shock, to the both of us, and it scares the hell out me.
MWaaaaahahahahahahaaaa, ( did I just laugh maniacally?) this god thing has got to go. "That didn't work any better on me than it did when i tried it on you."
"Obsidian Mask, I should've guessed. Whats with the spider getup?"
As I command the spiders to crawl over him, I can't help but feel a bit smug...but I'm not stupid...I know he's calling for his ship...the spider hiding inside his helmet as much as told me so.
"There's no Obsidian Mask, you saw to that when you killed Moonshadow, I am Obsidian Spider now. God of Itrigue."
He is visibly shaking, I just dropped some knowledge on him and he's scared of the god-spider or at least that's what i thought, until he says...
"Moonshadow? I-I killed her? N-No I couldn't have, I l-love her....YOU LIE!!!"
Remorse? Could it be he was acting on instinct and didn't know?
"I'm afraid not friend, you took my sword and ran her through...and you are immortal."
"If I had killed her I would have gained her divine pow...ers."
"So you figured since you didn't get her powers you didn't kill her, and that her wound wasn't fatal? Well you were wrong weren't you skippy? You took off before the transfer and before she actually died. Her abilities were bestowed upon me as she lay dying. Feel good about yourself?"
"Nooo!!!! It's not TRUE!! I would never.."
"Never what? Do your master's bidding? How can you come from me and call anyone master?"
"You, don't understand..." "Enlighten me."
"I don't have a choice, his magic compels me, I can question my orders but I can disobey them."
"Well isn't that just peachy? Of course that may not fly with the Black Mantis, he wants your boss dead...and you know why he's called "The Multiverse's Greatest Assassin" there's nowhere and no-when Nechronos can hide from him."
"He's actually pretty powerful himself, but there's more to it than that, he's infiltrated the Black Mantis's realm, that was how he got that sword to Razor."
"You mean this sword?" I ask in a sinister tone as I hold it menacingly close to his face.
"I take it that means YOU killed him."
"Ever so slowly too."
The memory of that now feels enjoyable, and for just a moment I can imagine doing that same thing to my doppelganger here and a smile crawls across my face...I catch myself and turn away.
"Slowly? You sound like you enjoyed it. That doesn't sound like me. Maybe your divine appointment is having a more profound effect on you than you can handle."
Faster than I can think or even comprehend I'm all the way across the room, and with less effort than it takes to swat a fly I put this guy through three walls. The next words I speak I am only barely aware of, I mean them but I don't want to say them.
"YOU!!! You have no right to speak of my burden as if you can comprehend what it means to bear it! I would rather have Moonshadow than her might any day but because of you this is what I have become."
A glowing red light fills the room we now stand in, I can tell he's seriously injured with several broken bones. They power corrupts, and I know what they mean as I lift his broken body off the ground with my monstrous appendages to hold him before me. Every instinct tells me to end him now, but a small voice in the darkness that soothes me to my very being, whispers "Hold onto the light." and what could have been a bloodbath ends with me tossing him to the ground like a bag of wet sand.
"The voice of my beloved has saved you this day. Tell your master we know about him and that we're coming for him. I grant you this clone."
With a wave of my hand I alter the magic that binds him to his master and I alter it just enough so that my blade is again mine alone.
"What did you do?"
"I took from you his compulsion. You will is now your own, live with what you have done and know that all that you know of your life is a lie, a shadow of mine, you are a sham and a fake. Make something of yourself or die I care not." Inside my head I hear myself saying "Who talks like that." This is getting out of hand. I shadow step once more and leave this broken elf to his own devices. I have much to contemplate now. |

In the realm of the Black Mantis I find that time passes differently, for every month I spend here only a minute passes in my own world, and because of this I am able to take the time to learn how to use my newly acquired divine powers. I gain all of the aspects of a spider, and have insane uses for webs, as well as the knowledge of secrets. No mortal can hide form me what I wish to know. I have the ability to make a mortal willing tell me anything, I can absorb the information contained in any medium simply by touching it. Books, computers anything, I know passwords to all mortal devices with absolute certainty and I find there's roughly a 60% chance I know the password of any magical device about 80% if it's mortal made. And I don't need my sword to use magic, no I know just about every spell there is and if i don't know it , it doesn't exist. This is how Moonshadow was able to find my quarry so quickly and so accurately, the black mantis was right I was using her without even knowing it. We buried Moonshadow on a beautiful hill here and they erected a shrine in her honor, and I was informed that without the rest of the "Pantheon" I would be vulnerable to her enemies and so I reluctantly joined their ranks...provisionally. When all this is over I will select a successor who will take over in the meantime I learn that gods take these power transfers seriously and that there's a lot of pomp and circumstance involved. The rest of them may think this is a time for celebration but I do not. During the festivities I find myself thinking of her, and how wrong all of this is. I didn't want this and life is playing one hell of a practical joke on me, a clone of me kills my new love, Razor cuts my bloody arm off and nearly kills my best friend, and some psychopath I have never heard of is responsible for it all.
I stare out of the large bay window in secluded room, my head reeling from the ungodly amounts of information flooding into my brain that I don't want, trying to make sense of it all when I become keenly aware that I'm not alone. A servant has entered the room, and rather quietly too, shiny and metallic it appears to be some sort of android, and apparently female.
"His majesty has the great and powerful Mantis has sent me to see if you need anything. I am called PDX-17 and I am at your service."
She stands about 5'7" and if she were a real woman she'd be very attractive...not that I'm interested mind you.
"No thank you Sindhe,." I say off the top of my head "Why did I call you that? I'm sorry, PDX-17 is it?"
"H-How did you know my true name? I have not been called that in centuries sire."
Never seen an android act like that before, she's overwhelmed by hearing that name I wonder could she be...?
"PDX-17, were you always...as you are now? An android I mean."
She seems stunned that I'd ask, and is visibly taken aback.
"N-No sire, I was once mortal of flesh and blood. I am now bound to this form."
That's what I thought, and in an instant i know just about everything there is to know about her. Her childhood, where she grew up, her first love, how she came to be in her predicament, and even how to return her to her true form. She wants to return to her true form but all those she knew and loved are long gone and she's very insecure and... I start to become lost in her world, and and have to pull myself out of the swirling mist of information. This is one of the drawbacks to being the god of intrigue and secrets, I am also the god of knowledge and it is all too easy to become lost in someone's life as I see it from their perspective, I only need touch them or be in the presence of someone who does not wish to keep their life story a secret in order to gain every detail of knowledge about them, unfortunately I also gain an empathy and can get caught up in the whirlwind of emotions. Sheesh how do these guys deal with this...Practice I guess.
"Are you alright sire, you seem lost in thought. Should I return later?"
She's intrigued by me, attracted to me, her feelings for me are quite clear to me, but I am simply not in the mood to entertain them right now. It's freeing to know how someone feels about you it kinda makes things easy when dealing with relationships I guess. They don't have to demonstrate how they feel or constantly show what you, that is I, mean to them because I instantly know.
"Sire?"
Oh crap I drifted off again, this is very distracting.
"No um I don't need anything right now, thank you...and...you were missed."
"I-I'm sorry sire but..."
"Your friends and family, they missed you a lot, and they loved you...they were okay. I know you always wondered."
"Thank you sire."
She places her fingers over her lips, quickly bows and runs out of the room, presumably to go cry, but they are tears of joy. It feel nice to give someone something they need on an emotional level. That's when the realization hits me, that's what Moonshadow did for me. I miss her...but part of her is here, and if I want I can get lost in her life with ease. I won't, I can't, there are more important matters to attend to and as I stare out of the window over the vast city before me I know what must be done and I'm good with it. My clone must die, and I must be the one to kill him, and I know where to begin my search. I summon the Lillun and meet her at the space dock, but as she approaches I'm completely floored. I barely recognize her, the Black Mantis' people have made some major upgrades and there's just no reason for the level of overkill he had put in her, she was already one of the most powerful ships in the galaxy, now...now she IS the most powerful ship in the galaxy. I have been doing everything in my power to avoid serving the Black Mantis but I am starting to think I may have been hasty in that decision, I mean I know he's crazy, and insanely powerful but he travels through the vast realities of the multiverse, only now am I gaining a true appreciation of the possibilities for adventure that could bring. I can't be the High Justiciar forever, and serving Analaeus isn't really my thing, I've never been comfortable in that role. I have some serious thinking to do gotta be careful though, it's just too easy to get lost in it. |

What happened here? Answer me !!! I'm certain the Black Mantis would actually want me to answer him. The trouble with that is, he's choking the life out of me. I try to pry his fingers loose but it's a futile effort at best, I hear the servos audibly strain against his physical power and even my cybernetics start shorting out. Everything gets all snowy like when you're watching a video with poor reception. I always though this sonofabitch would kill me, I just didn't think it would be today. The whole world starts going black and his booming voice becomes a mere echo in the distance and just as I make peace with the end...
"Gaaah <hack> <cough> Wha, what happened? Am I dead?"
I'm surprised to feel air filling my lungs although m,y throat feels like it was massaged by an elephant.
"No, you're not dead Obsidian...not yet. You have much to answer for. For example, why is may eldest child lay there bereft of life and yet you stand before aglow with her divine might? Did you deceive her, just to become a god? I know how it's done, how do you think I gained my divine status?"
His voice is cold as ice and I'm more terrified than I've ever been in my entire life. He could have ended me quickly with a twist if his wrist but I don't think he wanted to or I'd be dead where I stand.
"I was attacked, she came to help, and she was run through with my blade."
I've never seen his face and I'm quite certain that the visage I see now is some kind of illusion but his glowing eyes feel as if they're burning a hole into my soul.
"If what you say is true then why do you have her powers?"
"The assailant didn't stick around, I doubt he knew she was a goddess. She died in my arms and told me this divine power was a gift and not to throw my life away but all I want to do is kill the bastard who took her from me!" We hadn't known each other long but it felt like an eternity,a blissful forever, that was stolen from me by some cruel twist of fate.
"Why didn't you kill him? He was holding your enchanted blade was he not?"
Here's the good part and I'd like to hear his opinion on why this guy didn't die.
"I tried, I spoke the command phrase but nothing happened. All I know is that this guy was trained by my clan. The move he used to disarm me was created by them..'
"Why did you relinquish your blade?"
I thought for sure I could easily kill him using the sword's failsafe but it didn't work and all I got for my trouble was skewered. That's when Moonshadow showed up and this guy didn't miss a beat, he turned on his heels and ran her through too."
"There is only one possibility that would explain why he didn't die when you spoke the command...He is you."
"WHAT?!?!?"
I can't believe my ears, there's no way this can be true.
"He is either form an alternate timeline, or a clone."
"HOLY SHIT!"
The words ring in my ears as I remember Razor cutting off my arm. Yeah, that would be more than enough raw DNA to do the job. It would certainly explain how he just waltzed right in here without the alarms going ape shit.
"Wait a second, even with accelerated growth how could anyone make a clone that has my fighting skills?"
The Black Mantis reverts back to his diminutive self with a flash, and seems more somber now.
"It is possible though few besides those in my pantheon are familiar with the magics involved, one could create a clone that possesses all of the knowledge and skills of the original. However, it would still die from the enchantments on your sword...this is something else. As of now, I am formally requesting your assistance, our standard arrangement plus a bonus should suffice. I want you to find my daughter's killer and bring back his head and only his head. I also want you to find out who created him or how he came to be. If there is anyone responsible, I want to know who it is so that I might deal with them myself."
One name immediately comes to mind.
"Nechronos, that was the name of the guy who I most recently crossed paths with. He sent an old enemy of mine after me and that was how I lost my arm."
He seems puzzled at that last part, I guess he's not omniscient.
"Your arm? Yes that would suffice for a small army of clones, you may be in for more trouble than I first suspected. Let me see your arm."
I show him my cybernetic limb and he as I watch it materializes into an actual arm. I knew he do things like this but when everything we know says I have to wait to fix it and that I can't do it at all without Razor's sword, and then this guy just waves his hand I have to wonder...what the hell does he ever need me for?
"I'm curious Obsidian, why didn't you just repair it with cloned material?"
"Good question. It seems my old adversary used a mythril sword that not only prevents healing but can also stand up to my Infinitium sword."
"Oh is this so? I want to see this blade, show it to me."
I don't often say not to this guy and this is a simple request. I take him to where we're keeping the sword and as he walks into the room I hear him start to laugh.
"Hahaha, do you know what you have here?"
"No." I say stupidly
"This is not a mythril blade, this is an Infinitium blade."
"Um my scanners revealed it to be mythril."
"It was design to cloak itself from detection, I should know...I forged it and I enchanted it. However, this should be in my vault. Someone has betrayed me or this Nechronos found a way to steal from me. So be it, take this blade, it is yours now and will obey your commands as your previous sword did. They share many of the same powers save that this one is further enchanted to prevent healing of any kind. You are lucky to have escaped with your life. You can of course reverse the effects but you need to know the sword's name to do that."
"What is the sword's name?"
"Doombringer. I have bound it to you, use it well, but I will have it returned once you have yours safely back in your hands. Now onto more important business. YOU will need to learn how to use your divine abilities, and for that we must return to my realm. Incidentally, did Moonshadow ever tell you what sphere she was goddess of?"
"No. It never came up, and I didn't want to take advantage of her like that anyway."
"Oh didn't you? I believe you took advantage of her abilities repeatedly."
"No I didn't I only ever asked her to use your resources to help...hunt...down...Razor. What are you trying to say?"
"She was the goddess of secrets, Goddess of shadows, and espionage. In short she was the patron of spies, and intrigue. You called on her often, and I dare say that someone with your particular talents should be able to make great use of her powers. Her divine form was truly something to behold, half spider half dark elf. I can't wait to see what form you take. Come lets be off we have much to do and you have much to learn."
Yeah after that speech I'm getting rid of these powers whatever may be, at the first opportunity, but only after I've dealt with Nechronos, and my clone...how cliche is that really?

| Worst day of my immortal life.jpg
Obsidian Original Characters 2015/8/6 9:31
1777 1
Back aboard the Lillun I put the mages to work on breaking the enchantments of Razor's sword. After a couple of weeks they come up with a way to allow Harley, and myself to heal normally again. Which is great news. As soon as I get this Nechronos business out of the way I'll get my arm fixed but for now I am going to take full advantage of the cybernetics and put a few more tricks into the wiring. As I get to the lab I hear what sounds like someone throwing a fit, and I assume it's ray having a conniption over a misplaced tool or some other trivial thing...I am so wrong, and what happens next becomes the worst day of my immortal life. The door opens and figure clad in a purple and black nano-armor suit turns to face me. I don't how he got onto my ship or why the scanners didn't detect him but I don't wait for an explanation.I pull out one of my pistols and take a shot. Imagine my surprise when this guy extends an arm-blade like the one in my cyber arm, and deflects the bullet I just fired. Okay he's got skills, I summon my sword to my hand and lunge, and lo and behold his arm-blade gets sliced in half. it's gratifying to know that still works on some people. This guy does not miss a beat though and with his off hand grabs my wrist and flips backwards twisting my arm. The move is very specific to my Ninja clan and I recognize it right away, I only have 2 choices, flow with it and release my grip on my sword, or keep my sword and get a dislocated wrist and elbow for my trouble. I know something about my sword that he doesn't and this guy just signed his own death warrant. I release my grip and he has my weapon, his funeral as the enchantments allow me to command anyone holding it to die...and then they die. This fight is over. As he stands there menacing me with my mystical weapon I utter the command phrase.
"Drop Dead!"
And....to my utter horror...nothing happens. He laughs and turns for the door. In an instant I'm on top of him, but he twists as I make contact and instead of tackling him I'm impaled on my own weapon. The 2 dimensional edge easily penetrates my armor and just barely misses my heart. I push off of the intruder to prevent him from sliding the blade left or right and cutting me in half and flop to the floor, he managed to sever my spinal cord and I can't feel anything from the middle of my torso down. I'm done for, I can't escape, and that's when the worst day of my immortal life unfolds. As he moves in for the kill, Moonshadow arrives to help me, but this crazy bastard turns to challenge her instead of running. You would think he'd have enough sense to run but he must not know she's a demigod, or he just doesn't care. I'm horrified as I watch her attack him only to be run clean through with my weapon, the look of absolute shock is burned into my memories as everything seems to slow and time itself stops for just a moment. Mercifully, he pulls the arcane weapon from between her breasts where it had just severed her heart. I try to scream but nothing comes out. As Moonshadow's body slumps lifelessly to the ground I struggle to try and stop this maniac but with my injury I am powerless to do anything, all I can do is blame myself and wonder how could I be so careless? Just then I manage to spit out the words "Intruder Alert" along with what feels like a pint of blood. In an instant my troops are all over the place and the intruder simply teleports away. when I regain consciousness I find myself in the sickbay with my wounds healed and my spine reattached. I spring from the table and grab the doc by the arm.
"Where's Moonshadow?"
I'm screaming now, and the doc places his hand on my shoulder to clam me.
"Her wounds are not that severe, but I cannot help her. Within the next hour...I'm sorry."
I just look at him puzzled, and then I remember that my sword was created with divine magic and is capable of mortally wounding a god and can kill one if wielded by anyone who is at least immortal or has divine power. I could kill a god with that thing because I'm immortal although anyone could could cause a temporary death like state to a god with it. In the hands of a mortal a god would be technically dead, although it would only last a few years typically the god could not return within the wielder's lifetime. However, if used by an immortal...there is no way to heal the wound and any fatal wound will kill such a being forever. Slaying a god is not just a matter of killing them though as their place in the universe must be maintained. This means anyone slaying a god typically takes there power as well but one has to be there at the time of death to do that and that purple bastard teleported. I don't know what will happen now I only pray he wasn't immortal. As I walk into the room I see Moonshaddow lying there, he skin ashen gray no longer the vibrant black that has warmed me for many nights now. My heart aches as I look upon her fading visage.
"My darling, come closer."
The voice that used to calm me to my core is now only a whisper as I sit by her side.
"Listen to me my love, the one who did this to me was an immortal." My heart sinks at the words, and I can't help but cry.
"You don't know that."
I say as I hold her close. What she says next break my heart and practically shatters my soul.
"I can feel the power in me leaving. he didn't claim it as his own and so it is mine to give. I give it to you...I know...you'll want to avenge me...but don't throw away your life...Live on...love again...you have forever. I love you."
Her last I love you is escapes her lips like a sigh, and a glowing light hovers just above her now lifeless body. Her voice echoes in the air and the last words she says to me changes me forever.
"Take this power with my love."
Reluctantly I reach out with tear filled eyes and embrace her ghostly image as this new divine energy courses through me...instantly my mind is cleared and a feeling of peace washes over me. I rise from the bd and kiss Moonshadow's body on her head and walk away. I had love again...and it was stolen from me again. I don't know who that guy was or what he wanted and I don't care but I am going to find him...and then I'm going to squeeze the life from him.
I'm lost in a rage I can't describe, it's more overwhelming than anything I have ever felt, and I am reminded that divine beings exemplify emotions and they are more intense for them. How Moonshadow must have felt for me. To love with a divine heart must have been truly amazing. My thoughts are interrupted by the sound of thunder. Thunder? On my ship? Oh god, it can only mean...
"SOMEBODY DIES!!!!!"
The voice echoes throughout the ship, it can only be.
"THE BLACK MANTIS WILL HAVE BLOOD FOR BLOOD!!!"
I have never seen him angry, in 300 years not once has he ever raised his voice but with the death of Moonshadow...I am horrified at the thought. Just then he bursts through the door. Normally they open side to side but today they're swung inwards, and are very broken. Lightning courses around the Black Mantis's body and he seems to glow. His diminutive 4' 3" stature stands a hulking 8 feet tall, and a cape flows behind him and in his right hand is a massive, spiked, Hammer. His simplistic costume has been replaced by one of pure divine power and I am more terrified than I have ever been in my life. The god of storms and chaos wants answers. |

Finally, I track that sonofabitch down, and after another foot chase he tries to give me the slip by hopping in his ship again but I'm one step ahead of him this time and as I leap from the flight deck a thousand feet above the planet's surface, I summon the Wraith. In an instant it appears beneath me as if by magic. A split second later and I'm on his ass. For the first time since this began I have the upper hand and Razor knows it. He points his nose to the ground no doubt he figures his smaller ship can outmaneuver mine. He's wrong, the Wraith is a flying death machine of grace and beauty and she moves with agility unheard of for a craft of her size. We skim the surface just a few feet off the ground and around obstacles weaving in and out at blinding speeds. I never look at the controls keeping my eyes on the tiny craft as Razor desperately tries to escape. I know he wants to hyper-jump but he can't while I'm on him. He dips down into a canyon but it won't help him, the Wraith easily navigates the twisting terrain. Suddenly he pulls straight up and takes off like a shot. He's making a break for it but that won't help him either. I arm my cannons and fire randomly, I don't want to kill him just make him panic. As we clear the planet's atmosphere we scream towards a nearby asteroid field. Suddenly I hear Razor's voice over my comms. "You know you can't catch me right? Not in that bulky thing. Sure you've got speed and you can maneuver in atmosphere but my ship was built for space. You won't win." There's too much rage inside me and all I can muster is the phrase. "You're a dead man." He heads for a nearby asteroid field and we bob and weave though rocks the size of mountains and as soon as he's clear he makes the jump...just like I planned. I get his coordinates and punch them into the nav computer and make the jump to hyperspace. I come out just in time to see his tiny little craft slow down, he thinks he's lost me and that's when I let loose with a torpedo, it detonates taking out his shields and it's a simple matter for my guns to take him down. he treats off towards a nearby planet, at full burn, another base presumably. As we breach the atmosphere a dozen Hadean fighters join the fray, their funeral. I launch several F.A.F. (fire and forget) drones and continue after Razor. The drones will make short work of any pilots that were stupid enough to attack me. Their small size makes them hard to target and they pack considerable firepower. Razor's ship continues to fall apart and I watch as one of his engines explodes bursting into flames, an engine panel whizzes by my canopy but I never flinch. My scanners pick up a base nearby and I lock onto it with a heavy torpedo. The torpedo detonates a split second later leaving a gaping hole and destroying any possibility of rescue for Razor. His crippled ship makes a bee line for one of the few remaining hangars and I'm right on his tail. His landing isn't graceful in the slightest and he tears up the runway . As soon as the wraith is close enough I leap from the cockpit and onto the flight deck. Razor stumbles out of the wreckage with the grace of newborn foal. In an instant I'm on him, but I discover all too quickly that his clumsy staggering was a ruse. His blade narrowly misses my head as I slide under the stroke. I grip the ground fwith my gauntleted fingers for traction to slow my speed, and turn to face him in a three point stance. My blade instantly teleports into my hand and we square off. His armor is an even match for my own so just like our last encounter this fight is gonna come down to skill. Our swords clash, and I'm certain my 2 dimensional infinitium sword will easily lop his bullshit mythril blade in half, but no. One deadly slash after another and the sparks fly. Again and again, we test each other's skills and it looks like a stand off until I do something unexpected... "Razor, you know you did something stupid right?" "Oh, and what pray tell, is that?" We are evenly matched, there's no way you can take me." "you're right." I say with a smile, "But you took too long to finish me and let this fight last long enough for my sword to charge. So you'll be fighting it instead of me." Oh how I wish I could seen the look on his face as I release the handle and the enchanted sword flies of it's own free will. It is a sight to behold, and there's no way Razor can't keep both me and my blade in his sights, and I take full advantage. I tackle him to the floor with an impact hard enough to send his blade flying. Sitting on top of him I begin slamming my fist into his head repeatedly. Razor tries to use his clawed fingers to slice my mask while grabbing my wrist in his other hand. I edge my fist closer and closer to his face and just inches away I release the hidden mythril blade from my cybernetic arm I can feel the sudden panic as he doubles his effort to claw my face off. "You, can't beat me like this Obsidian, our armors are too evenly matched. NNgh What do you argh, hope to accomplish?" "We were evenly matched, until you cut my arm off." I don't switch off the mic, as I tell my onboard computer: "Computer, transfer additional power to cybernetics!" Slowly my Arm-blade creeps toward the underside of his jaw millimeter by precious millimeter as he feels the point he tilts his head away but to no avail, the tip moves steadily closer. As the blade cuts through his armor he makes a sickening gurgle and I feel his grip tighten, as the tip sinks through the roof of his his mouth and into his brain he he squeezes tightly, his right hand opens and closes as if trying to grasp some unseen object and then suddenly with a final spasm and a shudder he ceases to be. His body relaxes and the blade plunges to it's full length until I can see an inch of the it poking out of the top of his helmet. I give a final twist for good measure and his body convulses violently and then goes limp. At last I have my revenge, the clan has it's debt, and I have his sword...as I walk back to my hovering ship I never look back, tossing an anti-matter grenade over my should as I leap into the cockpit. A moment later as my craft screams through the atmosphere the base explodes with 10 megatons of explosive power. I head back for the Lillun, with a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Killing is never easy for me and killing slowly is even less so. I think I'm gonna go get drunk. |

This beast is as it's name would imply, a combination of Dragon and Turtle. Though not as massive as a Zaratan, Reef Dragon it still impressive at nearly 50 feet in length. Dragon Turtles have no natural enemies except other dragons, and feed primarily on other sea creatures having no preference of one species over another. Like many dragons they have fiery breath which is hot enough to melt granite and while they cannot fly they can indeed swim at speeds of up to 200 mph. It has been observed they they can lay dormant at the ocean floor at any depth meaning they are they are not only quite strong but also quite durable, capable of withstanding pressures that would crush lesser creatures. Even small Dragon Turtles are practically invulnerable to most conventional weapons while larger Dragon Turtles can only be harmed by enchanted or Heavy weapons capable of damaging starships. The beak and teeth of a Dragon Turtle as one might suspect, is capable of tearing through conventional materials easily, though thankfully they rarely attack seagoing vessels. It is not possible to tame or ride these creatures and unlike their flying cousins they are not highly intelligent though they do possess a high degree of animal intelligence. If provoked the Dragon Turtle will hunt it's enemy down relentlessly and they have long memories. Dragon Turtles reproduce by laying from 1-3 eggs and viciously guard them against predators attacking anyone or anything that comes within roughly 100 yards. Upon hatching the first hatchling will immediately attack the remaining eggs feasting upon it's siblings, this behavior is baffling to scientists but it does keep their numbers down. The life span of a Dragon Turtle is unknown but if the land based dragons are anything to go by it could possibly be thousands of years. |

HACK/SLASH is a comic book series from Image Comics.
A fan commissioned me to do a drawing of this character -- and based on the images I found online researching the character, this scene seemed to fit the best.
(I can't bring myself simply to draw a character just standing there. It seems like such a waste!)
Hope you like it!

| ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper Tribute

‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, Wrestling Legend,Actor, Dead at 61.
Wrestling legend “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has died at age 61, TMZ reports. Piper died of cardiac arrest in his Hollywood home, according to the website. Piper (real name: Roderick George Toombs) rose to wrestling fame in the 1980s, and was admitted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. Piper was one of the wrestling league’s most popular villains, playing up Toombs’ Scottish heritage — he was actually born in Canada, though his character was billed as from Glasgow — with his signature kilt and the bagpipe music that would accompany him into the ring. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Toombs made his pro wrestling debut in Winnipeg at age 15, eventually making his way to America, where he landed a gig with the American Wrestling Association, which ran from 1973 to 1975. He later moved on to the National Wrestling Alliance before signing on with the WWE — at the time, the WWF — rising to iconic status. In addition to his ring time, Piper hosted the talk show “Piper’s Pit,” which was later refashioned as a podcast. In professional wrestling, he was best known for his work with the World Wrestling Federation in the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. Although he was Canadian, due to his Scottish heritage he was billed as coming from Glasgow in Scotland and was known for his signature kilt and bagpipe entrance music. He earned the nickname "Rowdy" by displaying his trademark "Scottish" rage, spontaneity and quick wit. Despite being a crowd favorite for his rock star-like persona, he often played a villain. Aside from his ring name, he was also known by the nickname "Hot Rod". Piper racked up dozens of film and TV credits, starring in numerous action B-movies and later doing voice work”. The most famous of Piper's acting exploits was in the 1988 science fiction film They Live, directed by John Carpenter, which spawned the catchphrase Piper came up with - "I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. And I’m all out of bubble gum." - As well as the long fight scene over sunglasses against Keith David which took three weeks to rehearse. The line and the fight scene has since been parodied in Duke Nukem, South Park and Adventure Time. Entertainment Weekly wrote that Piper's role in They Live made him a "cult icon" and "some kind of legend". Rolling Stone wrote that Piper "had a memorable career as an cult actor", citing They Live and the 1987 film Hell Comes to Frogtown. Piper appeared as a wrestler loosely based on himself in an episode called "Crusader" from Walker, Texas Ranger. Piper appeared as a prison antagonist in an episode of The Outer Limits series - *Born: Apr 17, 1954 • Saskatoon, Canada *Died: Jul 31, 2015 *Height: 6' 0" (1.83 m) *Net worth: $4 million USD (2015) *Spouse: Kitty Toombs (Since 1982) *Children: Ariel Teal Toombs (Daughter) • Colton Baird Toombs (Son) • Falon Danika Toombs (Daughter) • Anastacia Shea Toombs (Daughter)

But the diabolical madman has no intention of doing anything about it. No he intends to find this destroyer and glean whatever knowledge and resources he can from such a powerful being, but how? Yes how can he even dream of pulling the wool over the eyes of The Black Mantis! It matters not to him how, because he must first find the destroyer's weakness...Every creature has one right? But the tomes of the ancient archives give no clues, there are only rumors now, and is plans are being interfered with by that bothersome elf Obsidian Mask, no matter he at least can be disposed of. Razor will see to it in their last encounter Razor brought back his arm, he will bring his head eventually. The mad Time Master's thoughts wander and then suddenly, a tome mentions a prophecy, no, not a prophecy but a myth, a legend. The Time Masters mention a simulacrum, a clone, an artificial life brought forth from the blood of the enemy, one who is close to the destroyer but who could it mean? Over and over a reference to the Dark hood and Dark Shadow, it couldn't be...could it...The bothersome Elf is close to the destroyer? Pah many beings wear black and call themselves the hooded one and so forth...but this is too much of a coincidence for Nechronos' comfort. Razor kept the arm as a trophy, and now it may serve a better use... The mad Time Master summons Deathwing, his loyal dragon, and with an incantation as old as time they vanish in a violet mist. |

Obsidian Original Characters 2015/7/28 6:06
1990 3
Water drips from the cavern ceiling trickling with an echo onto the cave floor and in the cold darkness the sound of my own breath inside my helmet seems louder than usual. The ruins of Guldav’n could be another wild goose chase but for my beloved Sarah I have to check out every rumor and every clue no matter how slim the chance of finding her may be. After a few minutes I get the eerie feeling I’m not alone. A quick scan of a nearby wall reveals the telltale traces of bats, further scanning reveals the bats themselves…vampire bats. Vampire bats are fine but usually where one finds vampire bats one also finds...Vampires! Yeah I know what you’re thinking “Vampires? Seriously?” yeah seriously in fact there are entire worlds conquered by the damned things. Of course those worlds are blockaded, nothing in and nothing out, and anyone trying to leave is terminated with extreme prejudice and any ships leaving the atmosphere are atomized. But this world isn’t ruled by them or I wouldn’t have set foot on it…still I feel like I’m being watched. To that end I reach for my sword and slowly slide the metal blade out. I activate the stealth systems on my suit and go into silent mode and that’s when I hear it, the grinding sound of a foot on gravel. I’m being followed, and since my scanners don’t pick up undead I use my sword’s magic and cast a simple spell that does. I get a sick feeling in my stomach as the spell reveals dozens of vampires within 200 ft of me but one closer than all the others. I turn to face it and I am caught completely by surprise by the sheer speed of the thing. It immediately goes for the throat big mistake. Now it’s my turn for surprises as I whip the bloodsucker into a nearby wall impaling it on a Stalagmite large enough to skewer a rhino. It won’t kill it, a fact I am reassured of as the damn vampire snaps it in half and soars high above me. “You are formidable indeed mortal but that armor will not save you for long, I shall enjoy feasting on your blood.” Arrogance is a sign of stupidity in my book. Dracula here has no clue what he’s up against. I don’t have time for this crap though and I honestly did not come equipped with wooden or UV ammo. That means that my sword is the only means of killing this thing since Vampires have a particular susceptibility to magic. However, I need him in arms reach to kill him. Sooooo… “Hey suckhead, I have to say, I don’t particularly like being called mortal. In fact I find it a bit insulting. You must be high on your fake immortality…too bad you have to feed on others to keep it. Unlike you, I am born to it.” There’s a pause as the blood sucker considers the ramifications of what I’ve just told him and then… “You are Luminesti? Ha! Your life is forfeit here elf, this is our domain. Immortality is but one of our gifts, behold our true power.” He lands on the ground in front of me and takes a swipe at my head, to no avail as I easily evade his clawed hand. However, he does not evade mine as I dislocate his arm at the elbow, he snaps it back in place like nothing happened but it got his attention and now he’s pissed on principal. That’s when I pull out my sword. The smug bastard just smile…but his amusement doesn’t last for long. “Do you think that will save you? No mortal weapons can harm me…Hahahahaaaaa-Hurk!” That last noise he makes is funny to me and I can’t hold back a slight chuckle, and as the look on his face turns from arrogance to twisted rage. I know he has just realized I can really hurt him. “You! I will kill you slowly for that!” “Bring it bloodsucker!” “Raaaargh!!!!” He falls right into my trap, as his good sense gives way to his rage he lunges for me his last most fatal mistake. My armor easily outmatches his speed and strength as I side step him and shove him face first into the ground. As he turns to face me again his look of rage is replaced by surprise as the flash of my enchanted blade severs his head from his shoulders. A gurgle escapes his lips as he tries to say something, and he only manages to stare at me with a combination of hatred and disbelief on his face as his body bursts into blueish green flames and ash. In an instant his body is reduced to nothing more than a pile of flickering embers as it crumbles to dust like so much burnt paper. I scan once more to see if there are more of them on the way, and to my relief none of his vampire buddies are moving. I know that if Sarah came here her Infinitium armor and combat skills would have made short work of these guys, still…I have to go farther in. I place an EMT enhancer nearby to boost the retrieval beam in the event I need to make a quick exit and proceed onward. After a few yards through damp caverns and an opening emerges reveal a vast underground oasis that spreads for miles in all directions. Brightly glowing Sunstones high above provide light by absorbing solar radiation from the surface and radiating it to the darkness below. Even miles beneath the surface the effect is like having direct sunlight…and is powerful enough to keep Vampires at bay. In the distance, an overgrown ruin lies stretched out before me and after a quick scan for evil creatures reveals nothing, I hike towards it. As I approach the temple I can’t help but think that if the intel I got on this place was bogus there’ll be no place that Gobelian info-broker can hide from me. I reach a clearing at the entrance to a temple, Statues of men with eagle heads stand like giant pillars on either side of the entrance. Hieroglyphs dot the walls, most pay homage to Ra the sun god while others speak of the great pharaoh to whom this particular temple is dedicated. My helmet possess enchantments which enable me to understand written languages (I can’t write them though), further enchantments allow me to understand and speak all languages that are verbal…but the enchantment I like best is the one that allows me to detect and read Runes and this temple is covered in them. Several runes are power spells meaning they’ll hurt trespassers, still others are conjuration, and the scariest ones are Essence spells no doubt intended to raise undead guardians to protect whatever lies inside. These types of enchantments are single use only and since they’re still in place it’s a safe bet that nobody has entered the place since it was built. As I explore the perimeter, I come across an old campsite but it looks like there was a battle. The footprints reveal that at least one of the combatants was….YES!! Sarah was here alright, and the tread of her Tabi and her signature toe claws are all over the place but as I discover the corpses of her foes I am confused at best. They’re all bones, not scattered either, they’ve been picked clean and have yellowed as though a hundred years or more have passed since they fell. A quick Carbon scan reveals they are in fact 500 years old. The claw marks on many of the bones reveal that it is definitely Sarah’s handy work, but 500 years ago? It doesn’t make any sense. Suddenly a glimmer of gold catches my eye as I walk over I scan it and I discover it isn’t gold at all but…an Infinitium case! Well that tears it, 500 years or not, this is definitely Sarah’s. The case is hermetically sealed and cannot be opened here. The lock is DNA coded, so it will have to be taken aboard the Lillun where we have Sarah’s DNA on file. As I exit the cave, a simple button press activates my Star-fighter which flies in and hovers above me. I remotely land it in a nearby clearing mindful of the fact that the two suns of this world are both setting, and that the Vampires within the caverns will be waking soon. Climbing into the cockpit I punch up my starship on the radio. “Obsidian Mask to Lillun do you read, over?” “Obsidian Mask this is Harley we read you Loud and clear, why is your transmission audio only?” “The twin binaries on this world prevent full video communications.” “Understood. What do you need bro?” “I am sending rendezvous coordinates for this system please fold here asap.” “Confirmed will rendezvous with you in one hour.” “Why so long?” “The Black Mantis has decided to make some modifications to the warp rings and aft section in general and they’re almost complete.” “Aw crap what is he doing to our ship? Very well one hour. I’ll remain in orbit until then. Obsidian out.”
My apologies folks this should have been the first image in the series but the idea to do a series came late. |
